Five recommended cafes in Atami to stop by during sightseeing
Atami, which has long flourished as a hot spring resort, is dotted with cafes of various styles. From retro coffee shops loved by literary giants who have villas in Atami to beach-style cafes where you can enjoy Hawaiian sweets, we will introduce you to cafes that you can use according to your purpose.
1ACAO FOREST COEDA HOUSE
A café with a spectacular view where you can enjoy a rose-themed menu
This café opened in 2017 in ACAO FOREST, a floral paradise of about 200,000 tsubo. Standing on a hill 150 meters above sea level, you can enjoy rose-themed drinks and sweets while overlooking the ocean below.
Among the most popular are the "Rose Juice," which contains rose extract, and the "Atami Tart Fromage with Orange" (limited quantities only), which uses Atami's specialty orange, giving it a slightly sour taste. The "COEDA KUCHEN" baumkuchen made with precious "mandarin honey" is also popular. The shop also offers a wide variety of souvenirs, such as rose jam and other goods.
The concept is a space in harmony with nature.
In addition to the wonderful location, the architecture is also attracting attention. The architectural design, which gives the impression of something from the near future, is by Kengo Kuma, an architect who also designed the "New National Stadium" and other facilities. The concept of the building is "a space in harmony with nature," and wood is used abundantly in the interior, allowing visitors to feel the warmth of the wood. The interior is decorated with wood, giving the guests a sense of warmth and comfort, and the nails and air conditioning are hidden from view, creating a comfortable space that makes them feel as if they are relaxing in nature.

Signature menu is a hamburger loved by great writers.
The store's name, "Bonnet," comes from a hat worn by European ladies, and the coffee shop, which opened in 1952, has an attractive retro interior. The signature item on the menu is a hamburger that was a favorite of writer Yukio Mishima. The master, who worked part-time at a U.S. military officers' club in Ginza, Tokyo, was fascinated by the hamburger he encountered there, so he rearranged it and made it his signature dish.
Enjoy your lunch time in an atmospheric atmosphere.
The interior, with a showcase in the center of the restaurant, is reminiscent of an American coffee shop in the 1950s. One can imagine that it was a cutting-edge design at the time of opening. Enjoying lunch in the retro atmosphere and chatting with the owner at the counter is a unique way to enjoy Bonnet.

4TOKIWAGI YOKANNEN CHABO JIN
Adult Japanese café run by a long-established Yokan store
This Japanese-style cafe is run by Tokiwagi Yokan, a long-established yokan shop that has been in business since the Taisho era (1912-1926). It was opened in 2013 in response to the owner's wish to "let younger Guest/customers enjoy Japanese sweets" and the desire of customers to "eat in" to their purchases.
The most popular item is the "Tsurukichi Yokan Set" that includes "Tsurukichi Yokan (orange)" made with Atami's specialty orange (Daidai). The refined taste of sweetness with a hint of bitterness is unique and delicious. Other attractive menu items include monaka that looks like macaroons and anmitsu made with yokan.
High-quality, comfortable, modern Japanese style interior.
Although it is a Japanese-style cafe, jazz and other music plays inside. The space, which was produced by a temple carpenter, is a modern fusion of Japanese and Western styles, from the interior design that makes use of the "wooden framework" created by traditional Japanese construction methods to the interior and accessories. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, ideal for enjoying high-quality Japanese sweets in a leisurely manner.
Since this is a popular store, it is recommended to visit early in the day, especially after lunch, as it is expected to be crowded. In summer, an original shaved ice menu is also available. It is a perfect place to take a break from sightseeing during the hot season.
