Atami hot spring is associated with the Tokugawa family, as it is recorded that Tokugawa Ieyasu visited Atami during the Edo period and soaked in the hot water for seven days to heal his wounds. On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Tokugawa Ieyasu's visit, a footbath "Ieyasu no Yu" was constructed in front of Atami Station. The footbath, which uses natural hot spring water, is free of charge and is crowded with many people every day. Even if you do not have a towel, you can feel free to use the footbath as original towels are sold at a vending machine for 100 yen each. All hot water is drained after business hours and cleaned daily the next morning.
