Experience the wonders of nature in Ito, Izu! 7 recommended mountain and ocean excursions
At the sea, you can interact with dolphins and try your hand at fishing, diving, and surfing. On the plateau, immerse yourself in the world of ceramics and crafts and experience the joy of handcrafting. There are many such exciting experiences in the great outdoors in the Izu area. Here are some recommended activities in Izu that will leave you with vivid memories of your trip.
1Sea Fishing Pond Taikobo
A 10 minute walk from JR Ajiro station takes you to Ajiro fishing port. The fishing pond of Taikon is on the sea near the fishing port. You can cross by boat and enjoy sea fishing in the fish pond. Surrounded by the sea, the fishing pond is the perfect location for first-timers to experience firsthand the fun of ocean fishing.
There is a fish pond with more big fish such as horse mackerel and sea bream for beginners and warasa, kampachi, and ishidai for experts. Families and first-timers can take a course that includes a fishing rod and bait for an empty-handed outing. Staff/staff members will give you helpful advice on how to put on bait and how to fish. If the fish are not pulling well, the staff will help you gather fish by scattering bait. You can take your catch home in a Styrofoam container with ice, or have it sent to you by courier service. In addition, if you make a reservation in advance, you can have your catch cooked at the on-site cafeteria.
The fried horse mackerel is deep-fried from the bone, and is highly recommended!

2Dolphin Fantasy Ito
It takes about 25 minutes to walk along the seaside from JR Ito Station. Just the right distance for a stroll along the seashore is a healing spot where you can play with cute dolphins. The "Dolphin Touching Course," where you can feed the dolphins, shake hands with them, and signal them to jump, is popular for its ease of interaction without having to swim.
Swimming with Dolphins
The "Dolphin Swim," where you can swim with dolphins in a fish tank in the ocean at the same eye level as the dolphins, is a great way to spend a relaxing time with friendly dolphins.
For those who have a diving license, "dolphin diving" is recommended. A rare experience awaits you if you dive underwater long enough, such as touching dolphins lying in the bottom net. There is also a "viewing course" where you can capture the dolphins' adorable expressions and movements on photos and video, so you can fully enjoy the charm of dolphins just by visiting.

This pottery experience studio is located in the forest along Prefectural Route 111 at the foot of Omuroyama, the symbol of Izu Kogen. The studio building and parking lot were self-built by Staff/staff members. You can experience pottery making in a handmade space.
In the hand-binneri pottery course, you can make up to two pieces of tableware such as teacups and plates using a hand potter's wheel. The electric potter's wheel can be used to make pottery with no time limit or clay limit, and you can bake whatever you want. In addition to the development of clay blends and glazes, the unique firing technique of "extreme reduction and oxidation removal" using binchotan (binchotan charcoal) has been certified by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as "Izu's Pottery Experience" under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Management Innovation Program. You can also choose your own unique style of pottery based on the scenery and specialties of Izu, such as "Izu Shirahama-yaki" and "Kawazu Sakura-yaki.
The pieces are fired at the studio and delivered (for a fee) approximately three months later. The finished pottery is so textured that it is hard to believe that it was made by a beginner, so you can hardly wait to receive the finished product.

7Dogashima Marine
The sightseeing boat stop is about a 5-minute walk from Dogashima Hot Spring. From this location, a sightseeing boat departs from the pier, where visitors can witness the beauty of the Nishi-Izu landscape created by nature, such as the intricate rias-style coastline and the oddly-shaped rocks. Dogashima Marine" offers three types of excursions: the "Cave Tour," a sightseeing boat course; the "Premium Cruise," a high-speed cruise boat ride; and the "Geo-site Cruise.
Tenmado-do Cave, which is designated as a national natural monument, is an eroded cave made of tuff. The sun shining down on the center of the cave, which has a rounded ceiling, is very mysterious. The color of the water changes with the seasons, time, and weather, so no matter how many times you visit, you will be impressed by something new. Also, the "premium cruise" to the blue cave "Tenso-do" offers a spectacular view while enjoying the exhilarating feeling of speed. If the weather permits, you can even see Mt. Fuji across the sea of Nishi Izu.
