5 Popular Asahikawa Ramen Restaurants You Should Visit Now!
Ramen is one of the most popular and standard Hokkaido gourmet foods. Sapporo's miso-flavored ramen, Hakodate's salt-flavored ramen, and Asahikawa's soy sauce-flavored ramen are known as the three most popular local ramen in Hokkaido. Asahikawa's ramen is simple, with the main ingredient being a combination of noodles and soup, and features low-moisture, medium-fine, shrink-wrapped noodles that mix well with the soup. Asahikawa is also the birthplace of salted horumon, and horumon ramen is the soul food of local citizens. The secret of Asahikawa ramen's great popularity is the friendly competition among the various restaurants to enhance the ramen culture of Asahikawa. The "Asahikawa Ramen Village" is home to eight famous ramen stores, and is a great place to compare and contrast the different types of ramen. Here is a selection of popular ramen stores that you must try when you visit Asahikawa.
1Ichikura Asahikawa Honten
A flavorful bowl of soup simmered for half a day
Ichikura's ramen features homemade noodles made from 100% Hokkaido wheat and clear soup. The soup is proudly made by slowly simmering selected pork bones and several kinds of vegetables for 12 hours. No preservatives or coloring agents are used for the noodles, and natural brine is used. The original flavor of the wheat is enhanced. The most popular is the Ichikura Ramen Shoyu Flavor. The flavor of the broth fills the mouth with a deep, savory taste. The bowl is topped with a small amount of scallions, making it a visually impressive dish.
Another popular menu item is the "Salmon Bushi Ramen. The soup, made from salmon bones, has a clean flavor and richness that has been listed in the 2012 special edition of the Michelin Guide for Hokkaido, and the flavor is preserved in the soup. 2Junmenshokudo
Three kinds of ramen with a focus on creative noodles
Opened in 2020, this up-and-coming ramen restaurant offers three types of ramen. The most popular menu item is Junmen, a creative noodle dish made with luxurious ingredients such as French duck chashu pork. Junmen is topped with a pesto made from porcini mushrooms and other ingredients, allowing customers to enjoy changing the flavor along the way. The luxurious ingredients and the multi-layered texture created by the W soup of round chicken and seafood make this dish unique. The basic "Chuka Soba" has a simple flavor with a broth made exclusively from dried sardines. Jun Chan Ramen" is a collaboration of Jun Men's soup, original back fat, and extra-thick handmade noodles.
Junmenshokudo's ramen is constantly evolving with new items being served one after another, so we recommend checking the menu on the official Instagram.

Horumon ramen and buta-don (buta bowl) are the signature dishes
A tasteful ramen restaurant in an improved old private house. It opened in 2019 with the aim of creating a relaxing space. The restaurant's two main menu items are the Miso Horumon Ramen and Buta Don.
Miso Horumon Ramen features a soup made from a blend of several types of miso and tender hormone with absolutely no odor. Hormone ramen is Asahikawa's soul food, and there are many ramen restaurants that serve it. Among them, Heiwa Asahikawa's excellent soft and tender hormone is exceptional and attracts many fans.
The buta donburi is a delicacy made with five different kinds of pork. The pork is grilled slowly over a charcoal fire and served on hot rice with four different sauces for each part.

4Asahikawa Ramen Aoba Honten
As a pioneer of Asahikawa ramen, we have inherited the flavor from generations of customers.
Founded in 1947, Aoba is a pioneer of Asahikawa ramen. Yoshiya Murayama, the first generation of the restaurant, started from a food stall and created soy sauce ramen aiming for a taste familiar to the common people. Aoba's ramen, which is made with a combination of seafood and land-based ingredients, has been passed down through the generations to the second and third generations. The soup is characterized by its resistance to cooling and noodles that do not stretch easily, and no matter how cold the day may be, we continue to provide a unique Hokkaido offering of delicious ramen that is hot to the last bite. In addition to shoyu ramen, the restaurant is also known for its delicious salt ramen, where the flavor of the ingredients is the key to success. The toppings are simple - chashu pork, pickled bamboo shoots, and green onions - but they enhance Aoba's ramen, which is all about the broth.
The motto of the third generation is "To sell a hundred bowls of ramen, focus on one bowl of ramen. We hope you will try our signature bowl of ramen, made with the utmost care and spirit.

5Ramenya Tenkin Shijo-ten
A popular restaurant where you can enjoy Asahikawa's classic Shoyu Ramen
We first opened our store in the Asahikawa Ramen Village in 1996. Since then, we have been preserving the taste of Asahikawa's traditional Shoyu Ramen. Tengane's goal is to create a "taste that will never change. The deep, rich soup based on pork bones is "delicious to the last drop," and has won the hearts of ramen connoisseurs. In order to serve hot ramen in Asahikawa, where winters are severely cold, lard is added to create an oil film on the surface to keep the soup hot. Low-added, medium-thick, curly noodles are used, which are easy to mix with the soup. We also recommend the side menu item, "Gohan (rice with wasabi). The unique and tangy flavor of wasabi goes perfectly with the rice.
The owner is particular about "making ramen that you can see with your eyes and simply want to eat. Enjoy to your heart's content the harmony of the low-pasteurized, medium-thick noodles and toppings that go perfectly with the soup.
