7 recommended sightseeing spots in Sapporo that can be enjoyed even on rainy days.
What if it rains? Such worries are always a part of an outing. Sapporo is famous for its great nature and outdoor activities, but there are many attractive sightseeing spots that can be enjoyed to the fullest even on a rainy day. We have carefully selected seven recommended spots in Sapporo that are easily accessible by Direction, including a museum worth seeing and a shopping district that is fun just to walk around.
1Sanpiaza Aquarium
The beauty is like a painting. An underwater world that fills your field of vision.
This urban aquarium is located near Shin-Sapporo Station. Despite its compact size, the aquarium has a diverse array of tanks, inhabited by fish from the waters around Hokkaido as well as rare fish from around the world. Located near the station and a large shopping center, the aquarium can be accessed without getting wet in the rain, which is a nice feature.
On the first floor, the huge "Migration Tank," which recreates fish living in the Kuroshio Sea, is especially recommended. The coexistence of large fish, such as sharks and rays, and small, colorful fish is fascinating and makes you want to watch them forever.
Popular sea creatures are gathered here. You can even see their fur from a distance.
When you go up to the second floor, a large tank of fish familiar to visitors in Hokkaido, such as salmon and cherry salmon, catches your attention. As you walk down the aisle, you will see a large collection of popular animals such as penguins, largha seals, and otters. Through the glass, visitors can get a close-up look at the expressions on the animals' faces and the way they swim.
Before leaving the museum, be sure to stop by the merchandise store, which is filled with a variety of cute sea creature goods. There is also an aquarium where you can take commemorative photos.

2Hokkaido Museum
The nature, history and culture of Hokkaido on a dynamic scale.
Hokkaido Museum, opened in 2015, is surrounded by lush forests and has an impressive reddish-brown brick exterior. Known as "Morino Charenga" for its beautiful exterior, the general exhibition introduces the nature, history, and culture of Hokkaido under five themes based on the concepts of "Hokkaido in Northeast Asia" and "Relationships between Nature and People.
Among them, the "Mammoth Elephant and Naumann Elephant Skeletal Specimens" displayed in the "Prologue: Encounter of North and South" section are so huge and powerful that visitors can hardly look up at them, and they are particularly popular among visitors.
Traditional houses of the Ainu tribe that make you want to look closely at every detail.
In the Ainu Culture theme, the history and culture of the Ainu people are condensed, and their traditional houses are restored and displayed. If you take a closer look at the tools inside the house, you will discover many things. Outside the house, beautiful embroidered kimonos and ornaments such as necklaces are also worth seeing.
Many people visit both the Hokkaido Museum and the neighboring Hokkaido Kaitakushi no Mura (Village of Hokkaido Settlement), following the success of a manga about an Ainu girl.
