5 recommended sushi restaurants in Sapporo and Susukino
Sapporo's largest entertainment district, the Susukino district, is dotted with many sushi restaurants. Sapporo gathers seafood from all over Hokkaido, so all the sushi restaurants offer exquisite fish. They compete with each other in terms of craftsmanship and taste, as well as the service and atmosphere of their restaurants. Here are five recommended sushi restaurants within a five-minute walk from Susukino Subway Station, the gateway to the Susukino district.
1Hizen
Enjoy a variety of creative dishes.
This sushi restaurant has a calm and modern appearance that is impressive. You can enjoy several courses of dishes that are superb in both taste and sense of arrangement. The most popular course is the 11,000 yen course, which includes 5 snacks, 10 pieces of nigiri and clam soup. The snacks change each time depending on the ingredients available, and all the dishes are unique and original items rarely seen elsewhere. Nigiri also depends on the availability of ingredients, but herring, kinki, and button shrimp are relatively common. The standard nigiri served at the end of the meal is the "sanmoku-don," a bowl of rice topped with sea urchin, salmon roe, and hairy crab. Even though it is a bowl of rice, the restaurant serves it as a nigiri dish, which is impressive in both appearance and taste.
The owner's skill and inspiration shines through in his dishes.
The owner and his wife, both highly trained in Susukino, run the restaurant. They carefully select ingredients with a keen eye, and arrange them into nigiri and tidbits with the skill and inspiration they have developed over many years. What dishes will be served on the day of your visit depends on the ingredients purchased that day and the owner's inspiration. You can enjoy your drinks while anticipating the next dish to be served. A variety of alcoholic beverages are available, including sake, and those who want to enjoy plenty of alcoholic beverages can choose the all-you-can-drink option.
2Sushi Sakae
A genuine sushi restaurant that is easy to use
The price of each dish is clearly indicated on the menu sheet on the table, so you can eat as much as you want of the fish you want while keeping your wallet and hunger in mind. It is popular not only among tourists, but also among locals such as those who work in the Susukino area. The main ingredients are salmon roe, sea urchin, abalone, kinki, live scallops, and other seafood landed in various parts of Hokkaido, and you can order from a single piece, or you can enjoy the delicacies of the northern seas in a casual manner with the "omakase one-person" nigiri set menu. Sashimi and a la carte dishes are also available.
Easy-to-enter glass-walled storefront
The restaurant has a glass wall facing the street, so you can see the atmosphere and the crowd from the sidewalk outside, making it easy to enter the restaurant even if it is your first time. Since there are only a few seats, it is best to make a reservation in advance, but you can also just pop in if there are any seats available. We have a full lineup of sake and other alcoholic beverages, and we recommend the "Sake Cold Sake Taste Comparison 3 Kinds". This set includes three brands of sake from Hokkaido and six brands from Honshu and other regions, and you can choose any three you like. You can enjoy your own combination of nigiri and sake by choosing your favorite.

Enjoy the marriage of Hokkaido and Okinawa products in both food and alcohol.
Opened in 2019 as an alternative form of the popular standing sushi restaurant "Standing Sushi Restaurant Chokotto Sushi Honten" also located in Susukino. It is designed with the hope that customers will take their time to enjoy a variety of sushi and dishes a little at a time.
Since there is also a branch in Okinawa, ingredients from Okinawa and Kyushu, such as amadai and striped horse mackerel, are sometimes featured along with fresh ingredients from Hokkaido. The restaurant also offers a full lineup of alcoholic beverages, including about 20 varieties of Awamori, more than 10 brands of Japanese sake from inside and outside Hokkaido, several kinds of wine brewed in Hokkaido, and a variety of shochu from various regions of Japan. 4Sushi Paisaru
First, order the "Dinner Set" for a great price!
This is a restaurant where you can enjoy sushi at a reasonable price in Susukine, where many upscale restaurants are located. Many customers order the "Evening Drinking Set," which includes two drinks of their choice, three sashimi dishes, and one type of sushi roll. The standard order at this restaurant is to start with a light snack and drink with the evening set, and then order the nigiri of your choice. The nigiri includes a variety of Hokkaido's unique ingredients, such as raw oyster gunkan maki, live octopus, abalone, etc. Sake is served with Japanese and international sake. For drinks, there are many Japanese and international sake brands, as well as beer, shochu, sours, and other alcoholic beverages, most of which are included in the evening set.
You can easily taste the fish you want to eat right there on the spot!
The quirky restaurant name "Pasar" means "a place where people gather" in Indonesian. The former owner also ran a rattan furniture store, so the name was inspired by the area where rattan is produced. The sushi lane at the counter used to rotate, but it no longer rotates; instead, customers order by writing down the menu on an order form. However, the style of pouring hot water into powdered tea by pressing a lever on the table is still in use. The appeal of this system is that it allows customers to dine casually, as they can order as much of the fish of their choice as they want, while maintaining the feel of a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant.

5Sushi Mikami
The omakase course is a hit with regulars and repeat customers.
Although the menu is limited to the "omakase course," this Edomaezushi restaurant has many repeat customers, both local regulars and tourists who have become captivated by its reliable taste. You can enjoy 5 or 6 snacks using the day's seasonal ingredients and about 10 pieces of sushi. The standard menu items in the course include steamed abalone, which is steamed for six hours, sea urchin gunkanmaki, salmon roe hand-rolled sushi, and tuna ootoro nigiri. They keep the seasoning as simple as possible to make the most of the flavors of the ingredients. If you are not satisfied after eating all of the sushi, they sometimes offer an additional sushi roll with homemade kanpyo (dried gourd).
We are particular about the rice, vinegar, and seaweed as well as the sushi items.
It is a matter of course that the sushi ingredients are good, but the restaurant's policy is to focus on the foundation of the sushi. The rice used is a proprietary blend of Hitomebore and Akita Komachi from Tome, Miyagi Prefecture. 3-year aged red vinegar is used to make the sushi rice. The laver is "Kontobi laver," a high-grade laver from the Ariake Sea in Kyushu, which has a surprisingly gorgeous aroma and rich flavor.
A variety of sake is available to go with the sushi, with about 15 brands of sake on hand. Why not enjoy the trinity of neta, shari, and nori together with sake?
