Wide selection of local sake only a long-established sake store can offer
Mutoya, a long-established liquor store in Matsushima established in 1946, will open a store in Sendai Station from 2021. The store sells about 100 kinds of Miyagi sake, as well as craft beer and wine from the Tohoku region. In addition to standard sake brands such as "Hikakami" and "Urakasumi," Mutoya's original "Matsushima no Ginpu," made to go with flatfish sashimi from Miyagi, is a must-buy.
In addition to a wide selection of 180ml and 300ml sakes that are perfect as souvenirs, the shop also offers oysters and ascidians, Sanriku's specialty, as well as other popular snacks.

This select store offers traditional crafts and local specialties from six prefectures in the Tohoku region, as well as items created by artists and creators active in the Tohoku region. The theme of the selection is "items that are rooted in the daily life of the six Tohoku prefectures and items that could become the new standard for Tohoku. The shop offers a wide range of items, from high-quality daily necessities that fit easily into daily life to sundries that are perfect as souvenirs of your trip.

3Akiu Winery
Winery opened with the aim of revitalizing the Tohoku region
A winery that aims to create a "marriage of wine and food. It opened in 2015 in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake out of a desire to support agricultural and fishery producers in the prefecture and to keep the wine industry alive.
The store sells wines made from grape varieties grown in the Tohoku region, including Akiu Merlot, which is made from 100% of the grapes grown on the company's own farm. During the brewing process, the shop uses different extraction methods for each grape variety, allowing visitors to enjoy different aromas and flavors. In addition to wine, Akiu Craft Cidre, which offers the full flavor of Miyagi apples, is also popular as a souvenir.

4Ganwuan Kokeshiya
Kokeshi dolls with a new sense of tradition and modernity
The Kokeshi Doll Workshop is located in Akiu Craft Village, where eight workshops producing traditional crafts are gathered. The third generation of kokeshi craftsmen won the "Prime Minister's Prize" at the All Japan Kokeshi Doll Contest, and now, together with his son, the fourth generation, they display and sell their carefully finished works one by one.
The third generation, while respecting tradition, has created original kokeshi dolls with unique modern arrangements, including "kosun kokeshi," which are 3.5 cm in length, and "pancake kokeshi," an arrangement of the "ejiko kokeshi," which is said to resemble a baby in a basket, and are also popular as souvenirs. The winery is located in the center of Akiu, a small town in the northern part of Japan.

The traditional Sendai kokeshi dolls as well as the miniature kokeshi dolls arranged in a modern style are all individually handmade, and all are one-of-a-kind and warm. Some kokeshis are made for seasonal events such as Christmas and Halloween, so you can enjoy a new encounter with a kokeshi every time you visit.
Experience painting kokeshi dolls is also available at the store (reservation required). The experience of creating an original design from a 7-centimeter-high kokeshi made of white wood is a perfect way to create memories of your trip. The finished kokeshi dolls can be taken home on the same day.

A specialty store specializing in Shiroishi hot noodles with a history dating back to 1897
This is a long-established store of "On-men", a specialty of Shiroishi City, Miyagi Prefecture. U-men are dried noodles made from wheat flour and salt. They are characterized by the fact that no oil is used during the noodle-making process, and are said to be easy on the stomach and good for digestion. Slightly thicker than somen noodles, they are soft and easy to slurp, and are loved by locals of all ages. It can be served cold for a refreshing taste, or warm with warm dipping sauce for a more relaxing flavor. It is also a perfect ending to a night of drinking.
