Beautiful bamboo works created by a husband and wife team
A bamboo craft studio run by a couple of bamboo craftsmen. The bamboo craftsmen use mainly madake bamboo from Oita Prefecture, and each item is made by hand, from splitting the bamboo to weaving it.
Weaving is a time-consuming process that requires a beautiful appearance and design, but before that, the preparation work of splitting the bamboo and arranging its width and thickness is also very labor-intensive. The absolute prerequisite for a beautiful and well-proportioned piece is that the width and thickness of the bamboo strips needed to weave bamboo crafts are uniform. No two pieces of bamboo are the same, and the sense of the craftsman and his wealth of experience allow for the creation of beautiful forms while assessing the individuality of the bamboo.
Modern traditional beauty that fits easily into today's life.
While respecting traditional techniques, the craftsmen create pieces that are suited to today's lifestyles. The variety of works produced by different weaving techniques is fascinating, such as "Nawa-me-zashi weaving" used for baskets, "Nibonyose tortoiseshell weaving" with its beautiful and neat mesh, and "Kojiri-asanoha weaving" made of bamboo strips of different thicknesses. Stationery such as bamboo pens and paper knives are also available at affordable prices, and are recommended as souvenirs.
Bamboo crafts turn into candy colors as they are used. Why not go out to find a piece of bamboo craftwork that will last a lifetime, and that will also become more beautiful as it ages?
