Local Guide FAQ

What do you recommend in the Aizu/Inawashiro/Bandai area (places, experiences, food)?

If you are wondering where to go in Aizu-Wakamatsu, I recommend visiting the Aizu Buke Yashiki. Not only will you be able to experience the culture and history of Aizu, but there is also a Dining Area and an extensive Souvenir Corner. In addition, there are hands-on classes for children, so I think this is a sightseeing spot that can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages.

Please sneak in some hole-in-the-wall places that you know because you live there.

Kumano Shrine, located at the foot of Bandai Mountain, is recommended, although it is only open in spring. Kumano Shrine is tucked away in the woods and is covered with vegetation in summer and fall, and in winter it is covered with snow, making it difficult to enter. Although the atmosphere from the outside may seem eerie, once you pass through the torii gate, you will find yourself in a fantastic space.

Where did you travel to last year and with whom?

I went to Kyoto with a friend. We enjoyed the old streets of the city and also had some delicious food that we had checked out in advance. Among them, I had an excellent chasoba (green tea noodle) in Gion, and I would definitely like to go back again.

What do you do on your days off?

I have been visiting ramen stores in my spare time. Ramen in the Aizu region is generally light, but no two tastes are the same, and I enjoy finding the ramen that I like best.

Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?

One thing I always bring with me when I travel is a tako-shi extension cable.
I am sure everyone has experienced the "not enough power outlets" problem when traveling with friends. The must-have item that solves this problem is the octopus cable.
