Local Guide FAQ
- What do you recommend (place, Experience, food) in Kawaguchiko area?
Fuji, and Narusawa Ice Cave. Fuji erupted, and with an average annual temperature of about 3 degrees Celsius, these caves are truly natural refrigerators! They are especially recommended during the hot summer months.
It takes only 5 minutes to walk between the two caves, and the Aokigahara Sea of Trees is right next to the caves, so you can fully enjoy the nature at the foot of Mt. It is also a great place for families with children to enjoy the feeling of cave exploration.
- Please sneak in some hole-in-the-wall places that you know because you live there.
This is "Yamanakako Panorama-dai. This observatory is located halfway up the mountain, about 30 minutes by car from Kawaguchiko Station, and offers a panoramic view of Lake Yamanaka.
Fuji on a clear day. The recommended time to visit is at dusk. Fuji is so beautifully illuminated by the setting sun that you will lose track of time. At night, you can also see the beautiful starry sky.
- Where did you travel to last year and with whom?
I went to Atami and Ito in Shizuoka Prefecture with a friend. We made it our goal to eat "a bowl of seafood once a day," and we had a great time eating our way through the city.
We also took a lift up Omuroyama in Ito City, and from the top we had a 360-degree panoramic view of the mountains and the sea, which was truly spectacular.
- What do you do on your days off?
Recently, I have been focusing on cuisine.
Yamanashi is rich in nature, and hence there are many seasonal ingredients. There is a roadside station nearby, so I can get fresh fruits and vegetables there, and I try to incorporate seasonal ingredients into my daily bento.
- Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?
I always bring my single-lens reflex camera, which I have been using for about seven years now, and sometimes take more than 100 pictures a day while traveling. I print out my favorite photos and display them at home as postcards.
