Hoshino Resorts KAI Nagato: About an hour's drive from Shin-Yamaguchi Station. Nagato Yumoto Hot Spring is the oldest hot spring in Yamaguchi Prefecture, and has been in operation for about 600 years. It is known as a famous hot spring that was often visited by feudal lords during the Edo period. Kai Hoshino Resorts KAI Nagato, located in the center of the hot spring resort, opened in March 2020. All Guest rooms are "Nagato Gosai no Ma" (five-color room). Traditional Yamaguchi Prefecture crafts such as Tokuchi washi paper, Hagi ware, Hagi glass, and Ouchi lacquerware will add color to your stay. For meals, guests can enjoy abundant seasonal ingredients such as squid and other seafood, vegetables, and fruits that are well-known in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Akebono Café, facing the river, sells dorayaki and other delicacies made with yuzukichi, a taste of Yamaguchi. A stroll along the clear Onshin River with a dorayaki in hand is also recommended.

What places in the Nagato area do you recommend?: My recommendation is Motonosumi Shrine. I love the bright red torii gates standing in a row with the blue sea in the background so much that I want to go back again and again to see them. The sea that can be seen up close after passing through the torii gate is highly recommended as a photo spot.

Please sneak in some hole-in-the-wall places that you know because you live there.: The best recommendation is "Mukaku Gelato," which is only open on weekends and holidays! This store offers gelato made with Yamaguchi Prefecture ingredients and drinks made with herbs and other ingredients from the terraced flower terraces. The store is located in a very scenic spot, and the gelato you can enjoy while sitting outside in a hammock and looking out at the ocean is exquisite.

What is your most memorable trip?: I have very fond memories of visiting the Big Island of Hawaii with my college friends while I was studying abroad. We took a bus tour to Mauna Kea to see the stars and sunrise from the mountain. The starry sky that looked as if it was about to fall at any moment and the sunrise from the vast land gave me a sense of happiness that I had never felt before and gave me energy for the future. Since then, I have been fascinated by the unique scenery and have started taking photographs of it!

What do you do on your days off?: I love to drive, so I take a cup of coffee and put on my favorite music while I drive. I like to drive around with a cup of coffee and my favorite music on while looking at the beautiful scenery and sometimes stopping to take pictures.

Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?: I like cameras very much and always bring one, but recently I have been taking a film camera with me. Developing the film after the trip is one of my favorite things to do.
