Walking around Naha, where exotic cultures intersect and a tropical atmosphere abounds, my heart (chimu) jumps unintentionally (more and more). Everywhere you walk in the city, the air is filled with excitement, and the entire city is like a bazaar. From the lively markets to the maze of back alleys, Naha will tickle the curiosity of travelers and make them want to come back again and again.

Local Guide FAQ
- What sightseeing spots do you recommend in the Naha area of Okinawa?
The First Makishi Public Market.
You will be able to experience firsthand the "people-to-people connections" that the people of the city of Naha value. You can hear directly from the store owners about the charm of their carefully crafted products, including their conversation-based style of doing business.
It is also recommended to eat fresh ingredients at the second floor cafeteria while also learning about recommended cooking methods!
- Please sneak in some hole-in-the-wall places that you know because you live there.
Minamihama Beach in Itoman City, about 20 minutes from Naha Airport.
There are almost no Guest/customers, only locals. The waves are calm and the shallow water makes for beautiful scenery and sandy beach. It is a great place for children to play on the shore or do sap activities.
If you are lucky, you may even come across a "Sabani," a traditional Okinawan wooden boat.
- What is your most memorable trip?
When I was a student, I went on a backpacking trip with one day bag to four Asian countries.
Each country we visited, the members of the group would change. In the last one, I was so familiar with the country that I was mistaken for a local.
Recently, I traveled within the prefecture with my children! Traveling from a child's point of view makes me very happy because it is interesting to see the innovative ways children enjoy traveling.
- What do you do on your days off?
I often go to the ocean with my children to play on the rocky shore and swim in the sea.
Depending on the season, you may also go to "eisa," a traditional Okinawan performing art, or to local festivals and events.
- Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?
A waterproof case for my mobile phone.
Other necessities include toys for children, i-pads, detergent, toothbrushes, and lotion, although these are practical.
