Atami has been entertaining dignitaries and cultural figures since the Meiji era (1868-1912), and the geiko culture has been handed down to this day. Normally, geigi are not allowed to be seen as they are practicing, but on weekends only, the "Yumemachi Dori Hana no Mai" is open to the public, including tourists. Visitors can watch the dances that were once enjoyed by distinguished guests.
The dancers, Tateho, and the shamisen players, who are from the local area, perform so well together that one forgets about the time spent watching the performance. One way to enjoy the performance is to pay attention to the seasonal kimonos that add color to the dances. After the performance, you can take a commemorative photo with the geiko, which will be a memory of your chic fun in Atami.
