Atami is known for its mild climate and early-blooming plum blossoms. Atami Plum Garden, located about a 10-minute walk from Kurumiya Station, is a historic garden that has been in existence since 1886 (Meiji 19), with 472 plum trees of 59 varieties planted in its vast grounds of about 14,000 tsubo (about 7,000 m2). Visitors can enjoy a variety of colors, such as light pink and red, depending on the variety, and the garden is crowded with tourists.

Atami Umeen Plum Blossom Festival" can be enjoyed for about two months

The ume (plum) blossoms usually begin to bloom from late November to early December, and the "Atami Plum Blossom Festival" is held from early January to early March. The ume bloom at different times depending on the variety, with early, mid, and late blooms, so visitors can enjoy different views until the end of the festival period in March.
During the festival period, a footbath with free-flowing spring water is set up right next to the "Korean Garden" in the park, where visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery while soaking in comfort.

Itogawa promenade

Enjoy winter cherry blossom viewing at the famous "Atami Cherry Blossom Viewing" spot

Atami cherry blossoms" are at their best from January. It is a type of cold-blooming cherry tree native to India, which was brought to Atami by Italians in the early Meiji period (1868-1912) and is known as an early-blooming cherry tree. In Atami in winter, the Atami cherry trees can be seen everywhere. The "Itogawa promenade" along the Itogawa River is one of the most famous places where the "Atami Cherry Blossom Itogawa Cherry Blossom Festival" is held. A total of 58 beautiful Atami cherry trees bloom along the promenade. During the festival, the cherry blossoms are lit up and the area is crowded with people enjoying the fantastic night view of the cherry blossoms.
Since the blooming period of the Atami cherry trees is longer than that of other cherry trees (about one month), visitors can enjoy viewing the blossoms until around February. In combination with the blooming period of ume (plum blossoms), visitors can enjoy the Atami cherry blossoms as nighttime cherry blossoms after the ume blossoms, making it possible to visit two famous flower viewing spots in a single day.

Marufuku Garden

Experience mandarin orange picking at a popular farm

Marufuku Garden, a mandarin orchard, is located along Route 135, on the border between Kanagawa and Shizuoka Prefectures. In Atami, "mikan picking" is available at several farms during the winter season from October to January. In addition to mandarin oranges, the Property also grows ponkan, golden oranges, and new summer oranges, so visitors can enjoy picking citrus fruits until early spring, around May.

The most distinctive feature of Maruhuku Garden is its location. From the sloping farm built on a small hill, visitors can enjoy picking mandarin oranges while looking out over the vast ocean. Not only picking mandarin oranges, but also enjoying this spectacular view is one of the best ways to enjoy the garden. Buses are available from Atami Station to nearby areas, so there is no need to bring a car.
The fee includes souvenirs, so you can take home juicy oranges nurtured by the abundant sunlight and sea breeze.

The Atami Marine Fireworks Festival is a fireworks display that is held not only in the summer, but all year round and is synonymous with Atami. The special topography of Atami, surrounded by mountains on three sides, allows the sound of the fireworks to reverberate and make the fireworks more dynamic than usual.
In winter, when the air is clearer, the fireworks look even clearer and more beautiful than in summer. It is a wonderful view of Atami in winter.
