5 Truly Delicious Meat Restaurants in Gotanda, the City of Meat
Although Gotanda is often thought of as an office district where many business people come and go, it is actually known as one of the best "meat" gourmet destinations in Tokyo. Perhaps due to its proximity to the central wholesale meat market, which is the largest in Japan, Gotanda is home to many butcher stores and restaurants boasting meat, and here you will find restaurants where you can taste the finest quality meat prepared with care and attention by professional chefs. Here are five recommended restaurants in Gotanda that specialize in beef, pork, and chicken that you should definitely visit.
1Agedefuku
Superb tonkatsu made from "iwanaka pork" with a perfect balance of lean and fatty meat.
This tonkatsu specialty restaurant is owned by a meat wholesaler that is the parent company of "Meat Yazawa," one of Gotanda's best meat restaurants. Fans come from all over Japan for the superb tonkatsu made with Iwachubuta, a brand-name pork produced in Iwate Prefecture with a perfect balance of lean and fatty meat. To enjoy Agefuku's tonkatsu, we recommend that you go all out and order the "Gokujo Roast". The 180g thick loin is crisply fried at a low temperature, and the quality of the cut can be seen from the cross section of the cut. The first bite is a taste of the original flavor of Iwanaka Pork with Awaji Island seaweed salt. Then, enjoy the change of flavors with homemade ginger sauce or tonkatsu sauce.
You can also enjoy a mixed set meal with wagyu beef minced beef and fried prawns.
Beyond the large glass-walled entrance is a stylish counter resembling a wine bar. The atmosphere is also very comfortable for a single woman to enter. The menu includes tonkatsu set meals of loin and filet made with Iwanaka pork, as well as individual orders of Wagyu beef mince cutlet, chicken sashimi cutlet, fried prawns, fried fresh scallops, and other items. A set meal with a mix of these fries is also available. Beer, of course, is available, as well as highballs and wine by the glass, so "a round of drinks with tonkatsu" is also a good idea. If you have room in your stomach, we also recommend the "Ichiguchi-Pork Curry" for a special treat.
2Chicken specialty restaurant Shinanoya
Teriyaki chicken and homemade sauce for teriyaki chicken thighs
Founded in 1952, this restaurant specializes in chicken meat. The whole chickens purchased, mainly from Yamanashi Prefecture, are cured with their entrails still inside and then carefully cut by hand after they have been left to rest overnight. The freshness of the raw chicken meat, whose flavor has been extracted from the bones by allowing it to sit for a long time, is not only sold by part, but is also served as a side dish.
One of the most popular dishes is "Teriyaki Chicken Thigh". The bone-in thighs are seasoned with salt and pepper and grilled with a homemade sauce made from sugar, honey, and other seasonings. The dish is served with an optional sauce.
A wide variety of handmade side dishes that have been loved for years
In addition to about 20 kinds of side dishes such as "fried young chicken," "fried chicken meatballs," and "yakitori," the restaurant also sells boxed lunches. Visit early if possible, as some items sell out around noon on weekdays and before 11:00 a.m. on Saturdays. If there is an item you are interested in, you can call and ask for it to be placed on hold.
In addition to the standard yakitori "meat skewers" (thighs and bones), the liver skewers and bocce skewers (bonjiri) also have the authentic flavor of a specialty restaurant. Why not take out and enjoy them in the comfort of your hotel room?

3Chicken Cuisine Itoshi
The "Torikara Sukiyaki" (spicy chicken hotchpotch) from a chicken specialty restaurant with an addictive spiciness.
This is a chicken specialty restaurant of the "Itoshi" group, which operates bars in Gotanda, Ebisu, and Meguro. The restaurant offers a variety of chicken dishes using brand-name chicken, "Shingen-dori," including the famous "Torisukiyaki" (chicken sukiyaki).
The restaurant's most popular dish, "Torikatsu Sukiyaki," is a spicy and numbing chicken sukiyaki made with a combination of sansho (Japanese pepper), black vinegar, and homemade raayu (Chinese chili oil). The dish features various parts of the bird, from the thigh and the breast to rare parts such as the heart (hatsu) and the kumquat (immature roe). The soup with its concentrated flavor is also exquisite. Finish off the meal with "soupless tantanmen" with noodles, and enjoy the soup to the last.
Tantalize your taste buds with a variety of poultry dishes born from our experience in many countries around the world
The owner of the restaurant is a chef who has experience as a private chef in Saudi Arabia. One of the reasons he opened a restaurant specializing in poultry cuisine in Japan was that he mainly prepared dishes that dealt with poultry meat, which is less restricted based on religion. The owner, who has been exposed to cuisines from all over the world, is also noted for the creative dishes he creates.
As for alcohol, a variety of sake brands and natural wines are available on the menu, so you can enjoy pairing them with each dish. The basic menu is a course menu, the contents of which change monthly.

The restaurant has a unique presence in Gotanda, which is now considered a fierce battleground for yakiniku. The most popular dish is the "Golden Ball" which offers seven kinds of rare parts. The set includes sirloin, zabuton, ichibo, and minced meat. The recommended way to enjoy the meat is the "Roasted Sesame Seared Yakiniku. The meat is seared on one side and served with freshly roasted sesame seeds. You can enjoy the rare meat in two stages, first with salt only and then with roasted sesame seeds.
Enjoy the new half-rare texture of the famous "one-sided seared tongue".
A specialty that most repeat customers order is the "Kata-same Aburi Tanshio," which is beef tongue with a leek and salt sauce, seared on one side only. The half-rare beef tongue goes well with the onion-based white sauce.
The breed of Wagyu beef we insist on buying from a single cow is NAMIKI Wagyu (Japanese Black Beef) from Aomori Prefecture. It is carefully raised in the nature overlooking Mt. Hakkouda with delicious water, clean air, and original feed. You can fully enjoy the elegant flavor of the beef, which is typical of Japanese black beef.

5Kushiyaki Shochu Nichinan
The beef halami skewer, limited to one per person, made from Japanese Wagyu beef is very popular.
A long-established izakaya opened in 1979. Beef dishes using only Japanese Wagyu beef are popular. The signature dish, "Beef Harami Kushiyaki," is a gem that allows you to enjoy the lean meat-like flavor, and was invented by the founder who noticed that beef harami (diaphragm) was not so popular in the 1980s, and the delicious taste of the time has been passed down to this day. The restaurant also offers a wide variety of other dishes made with Japanese Wagyu beef, such as "Beef Nankotsu Kushiyaki," "Beef Tataki," and "Beef Tail Soup Ojiya (rice gruel with beef tail soup).
Excellent Wagyu beef dishes other than skewers, such as seared beef hearts
In addition to the beef kushiyaki, we also recommend the "Seared Beef Hatsu". The hatsu (heart), which is served almost rare, is served with ginger soy sauce.
The interior of the restaurant is covered from wall to ceiling with the names of regular customers, which is a testament to the popularity of the restaurant. The founder, a former commercial producer for an advertising agency, has many acquaintances in the entertainment industry, and some of his autographs are those of famous actors and sumo wrestlers. Enjoy Wagyu beef dishes in a retro Showa-era space loved by celebrities.
