Special confections, such as those that are difficult to obtain without reservations or limited editions available only in stores, make great gifts for your loved ones. From long-established stores to new stores, here are some of Tokyo's best confections for souvenirs.
1Western Confectionery Shirotae "Rare Cheese Cake
Mild and rich rare cheese cake
This long-established confectionery store was established in 1976. The classic and elegant cakes made by the owner, who studied confectionery techniques in Tokyo and in France, have many fans, and the store is popular with a constant line of customers. The "rare cheese cake" is a specialty that is synonymous with the store, and the same recipe that has been used since its establishment has been preserved. The cream cheese that makes up 90% of the cake is carefully selected from Denmark with a high moisture content. The cake has a rich, rich melt-in-your-mouth texture with a refreshing lemon acidity and an exquisite light aftertaste that disappears quickly and easily. The biscuit base is made with rich butter and baked to a fragrant aroma, and its crunchy texture adds a nice accent. The rare cheese cake is always made during business hours to ensure that it does not sell out, but reservations are recommended.

3Bunmeido Higashi-Ginza "Castella Fruit Sandwich
Seasonal fruit sandwiched between carefully selected sponge cakes
The popular "Castella Fruit Sandwich" from BUNMEIDO CAFE on the 2nd floor of the Higashi-Ginza store is now available for takeout exclusively at the Higashi-Ginza store on the 1st floor. It is a luxurious dish of seasonal fruits and cream sandwiched between "Tokusen Gosan Castella" hand-baked by artisans. The base castella is made with carefully selected ingredients such as Hokkaido chinese honey and Tokushima wasanbon sugar, and baked to a fine texture for a soft and fluffy melt-in-your-mouth texture. The cream, which was repeatedly tested and perfected to match the castella, is a yogurt cream with a refreshingly sour taste. The cream enhances the sweetness of the sponge cake and is a perfect match for the fruit. The fruits include strawberries, mandarin oranges, melons, and pineapple muscats, which change with the seasons.

4teal "Amazon cacao cream doughnut"
Adult doughnuts flavored with Amazonian cacao
Opened in November 2021 on the first floor of the historical building "Nisshokan". This chocolate and ice cream store was created by the collaboration of a chef-patissier who won the Asia's Best Chocolatier award and the chef-patissier of the popular Nihonbashi Kabuto-cho patisserie "EASE." Among the sweets that are a collaboration of the two personalities, one in particular is considered to be a masterpiece, called Amazon cacao cream doughnut. The dough is fermented with Levain yeast and filled with Amazon cacao chocolate cream. The secret ingredient of raspberry jam accentuates the fruity aroma of the Amazon cacao, and the lightness of the doughnut makes it easy to eat without feeling heavy. The mellow aftertaste is also pleasant, allowing you to enjoy a mature taste.

5lemon pie confectionery store "Lemon Pie
Nostalgic classic lemon pie
A handmade cake store established in 1981. As the name suggests, lemon pie is the specialty, and the store has a cute retro appearance with an eye-catching lemon yellow roof. The "lemon pie," which is carefully handmade by the wife and daughter who inherited the recipe from the first owner, is a popular item that is often sold out early in the day. It is made of two layers of rich meringue and sweet and sour lemon cream. The airy melting of the meringue and the sweet and sour lemon flavor are addictive. Because lemon pie is a delicate cake that cannot be carried over to the next day, we try to make only as many as we can sell that day, so reservations are recommended to ensure purchase.
Product name and price: Lemon Pie: 320 yen per piece, 2,050 yen for the whole cake (tax included)

6Ken's Cafe Tokyo Sohonten "Tokusen Gateau Chocolat
Melt-in-your-mouth rich gateau chocolates
Japan's first store specializing in gateau chocolates, where the owner-chef, who has trained at famous hotels and restaurants, offers only one product. Aiming for the ultimate, the "Tokusen Gateau Chocolat" is a dish that does not use flour or meringue and offers a good balance of the richness, sweetness, and bitterness of chocolate's original taste. The chocolate used is "KEN'S BLEND CRIOLLO," which was formulated for Ken's Cafe Tokyo by Gianluca Franzoni, the founder of the world-renowned Italian chocolate brand "DOMORI" and known as a cacao evangelist. The reason for its popularity is that it can be enjoyed in three different textures: at room temperature it is like terrine chocolat, when cooled it feels like raw chocolate, and when lightly warmed in the microwave it changes to a fondant chocolat-like texture and melts in the mouth.
Product name and price: Tokusen Gateau Chocolat 3,000 yen (tax included)
Shelf life: 2 days at room temperature or 2 weeks refrigerated from the date of manufacture.

7NUMBER SUGAR Marunouchi store "MARUNOUCHI BOX
Tokyo-only caramel in a modern box
The store specializes in colorant-free and flavorant-free caramels that are handmade by artisans one by one. The caramels are made using an old-fashioned method where the sugar is first burnt and then cream is added, creating a rich, soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture that is addictive. There are 12 flavors to choose from, including the most popular salt, as well as raspberry, ginger, rum raisin, and more. The "MARUNOUCHI BOX," available only at the Marunouchi store, includes four types of caramels with a Japanese flavor: salt, hatcho miso, brown sugar, and Uji green tea.
