The Kirishima area is located on the border of Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures. It is home to the Kirishima mountain range, which was the first in Japan to be designated a national park, and hot springs, a blessing of the volcano, spring up all over the area. The area is also said to be the birthplace of the legend of the descent of the grandchildren from heaven, and is known for its many spots associated with the myth. This article introduces five cherry blossom viewing spots in the Kirishima area, which is blessed with magnificent nature and hot springs and where mythology is still alive.
