Day 1

Approximately 7 min. walk
12:10 Shimasoba Ichibanchi
A cup of blissful Yaeyama soba noodles at a specialty restaurant
Island soba with the standard Yaeyama soba ingredients of shredded pork, kamaboko (fish paste), and island leeks (660 yen), juicy (275 yen), and handmade gi-mami tofu (330 yen)
The shop name comes from "Ichibanchi" in Ishigaki, Ishigaki City, where the store is located. People from both local and distant places keep coming to the shop for Yaeyama soba, which is produced through daily exploration while preserving the traditional production method.
The homemade noodles, which do not contain preservatives or coloring agents, are flat and follow the traditional Yaeyama soba style. The soup is made without using chemical seasonings, and is made by slowly simmering lean pork meat and bones from Ishigaki Island to remove the fat, and seasoned only with natural seasonings such as "Ishigaki salt. The soup is light but rich in flavor, and you cannot help but drink it up.
The spice "pipers" on the table is homemade from freshly ground hijatu-modoki (a type of Japanese pepper). It is highly aromatic and enhances the flavor of the soba.

Located right in front of Kohama Port, the bright yellow building is an impressive Dining Area. The restaurant is crowded with islanders and tourists because of its wide range of menu including Yaeyama soba and other local dishes, set menus, rice bowls, and other dishes, as well as its at-home hospitality.
The soba noodles are made from kelp and bonito broth from Hidaka and Rausu, and the noodles have an exquisite elasticity. In addition to the standard "Island Soba," the "Soba with Soft Bone Soki" is also popular, made with soft-boned soki that has been cooked until tender and then seared.
The unusual "Brown Sugar Noodle Zaru Soba" is an original menu item with homemade noodles kneaded with brown sugar from Kohamajima and served with soba-tsuyu (buckwheat sauce). Different from both Japanese soba and Yaeyama soba, the rich brown sugar flavor and aroma of the soba is highly recommended.

Exhilarating cycling along a straight road in the sugar cane fields
The road that seems to stretch to the sky is one of Kohamajima's most popular photo spots.
The road leading straight southeast from the village is a tourist spot known as the setting of NHK's TV series "Churasan. The road is lined with sugar cane fields and pastures on both sides, and the peaceful scenery of cows and goats grazing on the grass is a relaxing sight. The seasonal changes in the scenery, depending on the growth of the sugar cane, are also a highlight of the area. The absence of tall buildings in the surrounding area makes it a popular spot for star gazing.
The road has many ups and downs, but if you rent a bicycle from the hotel, you can ride it comfortably on the slopes as it is electric-powered. The scenery changes depending on the direction you ride, so you can enjoy cycling and feeling the wind in the air.
