Enjoy the charm of Kochi. Recommended sightseeing spots to enjoy with children
Kochi City, nestled among the Shikoku Mountains and numerous clear streams, has many spots that will tickle the curiosity of children. There are many places where children and adults can enjoy together, from admiring the animals in their rich natural environment to experiencing the mysteries of nature through activities. Here are five recommended sights for travelers with children that will grace the pages of your family's travel memories.
1Kami City Yanase Takashi Memorial Museum
Anpanman Museum has many exciting tricks!
This museum exhibits original picture books and paintings of Takashi Yanase, the creator of Anpanman. It consists of the Anpanman Museum, where visitors can experience the world of Anpanman, the Poetry and Fairy Tale Picture Book Museum, and Yanase Takashi Memorial Park, which is lined with stone statues of Anpanman and his friends.
The Anpanman Museum not only exhibits Anpanman's works, but also has many exciting mechanisms. Anpanman and his friends are hidden here and there throughout the museum, and visitors are kept entertained by Uncle Jam's Bakery and Baikin Man's Baikin Castle.
The Museum of Poetry and Fairy Tales, where you can enjoy the colorful world of Takashi Yanase's pictures.
Visitors can enjoy a wide range of Yanase's creative world other than Anpanman, including original cover art for the magazine "Poetry and Fairy Tales," illustrations, poems, and manga. This is a space where the world of the magazine, born from Yanase's single-minded love of poetry and pictures, is beautifully expressed. There is also a space where visitors can sit and read picture books and magazines.
There is also a "Fighting Anpanman Statue" that makes a great photo spot and a museum store that sells original goods, making it a fun place for parents and children alike.

2Wanpark Kochi
The zoo has so much to offer that it is hard to believe that admission is free!
A vast Park Property consisting of Animal Land where you can meet about 90 kinds of animals such as lions and tigers, Playland where you can play on a Ferris wheel and playground equipment, and a waterfront walking plaza where you can play in the water. The park is conveniently located for easy Direction from downtown Kochi, and, happily, admission is free. The park is popular not only with Kochi citizens but also with people from outside the prefecture.
The main attraction of Animal Land is that visitors can see animals up close. The indoor Animal Gallery, in particular, is a close-up view of the animals, with only a single pane of glass separating visitors from the animals. Visitors can see the minute expressions and gestures of the animals and even hear their breathing.
Playland has many rides that even preschoolers can enjoy.
In Animal Land, visitors can see reptiles such as tortoises and snakes, as well as tropical birds such as flamingos. There is also a petting area (closed from July to September) where visitors can touch rabbits and guinea pigs, which is popular with small children.
The Playland has a Ferris wheel, carousel, and many other rides that can be enjoyed by children as young as 0 years old if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Since visitors can bring their own food and drink into the park, this Property allows visitors to spend an entire day relaxing while taking free breaks to interact with animals and nature, or to move around with their children to their heart's content.

3Katsurahama Park
Endless blue sea and white sandy beaches. Visit one of Kochi's most famous scenic spots!
Katsurahama Beach is one of the most famous scenic spots in Kochi Prefecture. The beautiful sandy beach stretches in a bow shape, and the surrounding area is maintained as Katsurahama Park.
The beach is accessible by stroller with a ramp. Swimming is prohibited, but there is a promenade on the beach, so visitors can stroll around while enjoying the beautiful ocean view. The beach is also famous for its colorful stones called "five-colored stones," and it is a secret pleasure to search for them with children. If you get tired of walking, you can take a break at the Honhama Resting Area "Goshiki no Terrace" with an ice cream cone, a Kochi specialty, in hand.
Gourmet food and shopping can also be enjoyed.
Katsurahama Umi no Terrace, a commercial facility area that opened in 2023, offers a wide variety of restaurants and stores selling local gourmet foods and souvenirs. In the center of the Property, there are tables where you can relax freely, and we recommend that you bring your own products bought at the stores to eat. There is also the Katsurahama Museum, where visitors can learn about the history and nature of Katsurahama.
On the beach of Katsurahama is the historic Katsurahama Aquarium, which opened in 1931. Visitors can encounter fish that live in Tosa Bay and experience feeding sea turtles and penguins, making it a fun place for both parents and children.

4Kochi Prefectural Noichi Animal Park
Animals living freely in an environment close to nature are a must-see!
The theme of this lush animal park is "Lively People and Lively Animals," and the animals are exhibited in an environment close to their habitat. Approximately 1,400 animals of about 100 species live in the park, which consists of a temperate forest, a tropical forest, an Africa/Australia zone, a jungle museum, and a children's zoo.
In the Africa-Australia Zone, which is designed to resemble the savanna, Amime giraffes and Grant's zebras are exhibited together. The observation deck and "Polepole" rest house offer a variety of viewing angles, and the sight of the animals grazing and walking around at a leisurely pace is sure to make you forget the time has passed.
A variety of fun events to keep visitors entertained.
At the Jungle Museum, squall time is held twice a day to recreate a tropical rainforest climate. This is an event that attracts many visitors as they can see the animals behave in a different way than usual.
In addition, the zoo also holds unique monthly events such as "Extension and Stroll" in which the zookeepers take visitors on a tour of the zoo with the director, and behind-the-scenes tours of the zoo guided by the zookeepers.
The zoo also has an "Animal Science Museum" where visitors can enjoy learning about animals through experiences and games, and a Restaurant with a kids' menu including "Bear Lunch," making it a zoo that can be enjoyed for a full day.

5Ryuga-do Cave
Explore the mysterious world of limestone caves!
The huge 4-kilometer-long limestone cave, which took 175 million years to form, is designated as a national historic site and a natural monument.
There are three walking courses available, but if this is your first visit, we recommend the sightseeing course, which is about 1 km long and takes about 40 minutes. Visitors can experience the great power of time through the "Memorial Waterfall," the largest waterfall in the cave, and the ruins of a habitation said to have been used during the Yayoi period (710-794). There is no age limit for entering the caves, but it is advisable to consult with your children before taking on the challenge, as some areas are dimly lit and difficult to walk through.
An authentic exploration course that will tickle your adventurous spirit!
For a full-fledged experience of cave exploration, we recommend the Adventure Course (for elementary school students and older), which takes visitors through a pitch-dark cave by the light of headlights, or the Nishimoto-do Course (for 5th graders and older; reservations required by the day before), where they can feel the underground water flowing through the cave. This is a unique and precious experience that will arouse children's curiosity and sense of adventure. Why not dive into the mysterious world created by nature?
In the shopping street leading to Ryuga-do Cave, there are stores selling handmade soba noodles and souvenir stores selling processed bonito products and potato kenpi-chi. It is a great way to create memories of your family's trip, even after you have enjoyed your adventure.
