Local Guide FAQ

What do you recommend (places, experiences, food) in the Matsumoto/Azumino area?

Nakamachi Street. During the daytime, it is very enjoyable to visit fashionable craft stores and cafes. At night, the atmosphere changes and the illuminated brick walls and namako walls stand out even more beautifully. In fact, Matsumoto is home to many authentic, but not too expensive, fashionable bars and bars, which is another attraction for those in the know! Nakamachi-dori changes its appearance from day to night, and we hope you will enjoy both.

Please sneak in some hole-in-the-wall places that you know because you live there.

Ushibushi River French-style stairway. One of Matsumoto's most attractive features, the clear, cool water and the natural beauty of the four seasons can be enjoyed here. It is a stairway-style waterway of a special shape, designated as a National Important Cultural Property, which is surprising because it was built about 100 years ago by piling up stones only by human hands. It is not often mentioned in tourist books, and it is quiet and very relaxing.

Where did you travel to last year and with whom?

I went to a hot spring in Iwate with a friend from my school days. We took a slow train through the mountains to a Hot spring ryokan in the deep snow in the middle of winter, and were very impressed by the beautiful snowy landscape that looked like something out of a movie. What do you do on your days off?

Since I recently bought a car, I have been exploring the stores I have been interested in. In Azumino City, a 30-minute drive from Hoshino Resorts KAI Matsumoto, there are many wonderful restaurants and cafes where you can relax and enjoy a leisurely time. Time spent reading a book while gazing at the beautiful Azumino scenery is bliss.

Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?

Having watched my mother use furoshiki to keep the inside of her suitcase neat and tidy on every trip, I have also started to make use of furoshiki. The furoshiki is fashionable and useful not only for hot spring trips, but also for trips abroad.
