Local Guide FAQ

What spots do you recommend in the Unzen area?

Hasami-cho is located in Higashisonogi-gun, Nagasaki Prefecture.
This is an area where visitors can experience Hasami-yaki pottery and painting on vessels for a memorable experience. It takes one to three months to complete the painting process, but it is exciting while you wait. Reservations are required, so please make a reservation when you go.

Please sneak in some hole-in-the-wall places that you know because you live there.

Matsuura City, the holy land of fried horse mackerel in the northern part of Nagasaki Prefecture, is my favorite spot.
It is a bit far from Nagasaki Station and Nagasaki Airport, but it is worth the trip! The fried horse mackerels are especially exquisite. Please visit a restaurant where you can eat freshly processed and deep-fried horse mackerel. Souvenirs featuring fried horse mackerel are also recommended.

What is your most memorable trip?

I went to the Goto Islands with my colleagues.
We took the first high-speed boat in the morning and came back the next day on the last high-speed boat. On the day we arrived in Goto, we visited Osezaki lighthouse, a delicious lunch, Onidake, and local pubs. The second day was a trip to famous places such as Goto Tsubaki Distillery, Takashima Beach, local festivals, Akou no Ki, and Onisaba Honten. We were able to spend a very relaxing time on the island.

What do you do on your days off?

This is a tour of stores of interest in Nagasaki.
I especially visit souvenir shops and general stores. I hope to discover new souvenirs in Nagasaki and improve my sense of style at the general stores.

Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?

I always take my iPad with me.
It is very useful because I can edit my photos on the big screen after taking photos of scenery and so on.
