Hoshino Resorts KAI Yufuin is located in Yufuin hot springs in Oita Prefecture, which boasts one of the largest number and volume of hot springs in Japan.
The inn, built as if watched over by Mt. Yufudake, overlooks a landscape of terraced rice paddies, which are also known as Japan's original landscape. The hot spring resort offers guests the opportunity to relax and enjoy the seasonal colors of the terraced rice paddies and be healed by the hot spring water.

Local Guide FAQ

What do you recommend (places, experiences, food) in the area?

Kochopan is a bakery where you can taste bagels with a chewy texture because they are boiled in hot spring water!
The various types of hot spring bagels are available in seasonal flavors, and the bread other than bagels is so delicious that you will end up buying a lot when you visit....
We hope you will stop by this bakery, which can only be found in hot spring prefecture.

Please sneak in some hole-in-the-wall places that you know because you live there.

Yufu Silky Road, located a little off the Yamanami Highway going from Yufuin to Beppu, is a recommended spot for viewing Mt.
Although the famous view is from the narrow misty terrace, this spot offers an unobstructed view of the great outdoors!
My personal recommendation is from late spring to summer when you can see the bright green color.

Tell us about your most memorable trip, with whom and where you went!

I have traveled around Europe (France, Spain, Portugal, and Malta) on my own!
I was very impressed by the fact that I met new people and reconnected with friends who live there as I visited random tourist spots without worrying about time.
Of course I was able to see world heritage sites, but the wonderful encounters I had beyond the language barrier were a great experience for me, and I strongly felt that I would like to continue traveling, which I love to do in the future.

What do you do on your days off?

I have a lot of Google Maps pinned up, so I am usually out and about on my days off to explore new sightseeing spots and new stores on a daily basis!
I also like to hang out at cafes and talk with friends, or relax at home and watch movies or dramas.

Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?

I also bring my film camera, which is fun to develop, because it makes my trips more memorable.
I also often have a skin care pack with me. I usually buy a few packs and try them out on my trips to find my favorites!
