Local Guide FAQ
- What do you recommend (places, experiences, food) in the area?
This is the Akasaka Rikyu, a state guesthouse. I was surprised to see such a magnificent castle-like building so close by when I first visited! I was surprised when I visited there for the first time. Although it is a Western-style building, there are many unique Japanese elements scattered throughout the building, making it a spot that can be enjoyed even if you are not interested in architecture.
- Please tell us about the hole in the wall you know because you work there!
The restaurant is Akasaka Sumin Sumin, a well-known Chinese restaurant established in 1965. I like this restaurant because of its atmosphere and delicious gyoza (Chinese dumplings) and other dishes. It is the birthplace of vinegar and pepper dumplings, so when you eat dumplings, please eat them with vinegar and pepper~!
- Tell us about your most memorable trip, with whom and where you went!
When I was a senior in college, my friends and I rented a camper and took a road trip across the United States. We spent about a month crossing the country from west to east. Not only were we impressed by the scenery that changed every day, but we also had a lot of fun every day sleeping in the car and cooking with the eight of us.
- What do you do on your days off?
I often go to the painting class I have been attending since about a year ago. When I was a little girl, I admired my grandfather's memories of his travels in his paintings, so I started to do the same. I really enjoy painting my favorite scenery in watercolor.
- Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?
It is a film camera. iPhones are fine, but I carry it with me because I enjoy choosing a moment that I think is good and leaving it on a photo with a limit of number of shots. I also like the excitement I feel when I return from a trip and receive the photos I sent to be developed.
