Local Guide FAQ
- What areas do you recommend in Asahikawa?
The best way to experience Hokkaido's unique inland powder snow is to go skiing, snowboarding, or snowshoeing! Whether you ski, snowboard, or snowshoe, you will be addicted to skiing dry powder with little moisture. The quality of snow is the best in Hokkaido, and you can go to various ski resorts in Asahikawa.
- Please sneak in some hole-in-the-wall places that you know because you live there.
I moved to Biei because I love the hills of Biei and the Tokachi Mountain Range. In Biei, the sun pillar is the most beautiful natural phenomenon that can be seen only in winter. In the mornings when the temperature is below minus 20 degrees Celsius, you may be able to see it if you go to the valley formations in Biei where diamond dust is generated. Once you experience it, along with its coldness, the scenery will be unforgettable.
- Where did you travel to last year and with whom?
I went climbing with my family to Mt. Toma, a small mountain in Toma Town, a neighboring town of Asahikawa. Although compact at 292 meters above sea level, the view from the top of the mountain includes a view of Daisetsuzan (Mt. Daisetsu), making it a perfect mountain for the children's debut. I have very good memories of making and eating Asahikawa Ramen while climbing the mountain.
- What do you do on your days off?
I "shoot" and "ride" at the Shin-Asahikawa station with my train-loving child. Asahikawa is a key point of the railroad network, with the Hakodate, Soya, Seihoku, and Furano lines all running through the city, so there is a wide variety of trains to enjoy! Chikamon Station and Shin-Asahikawa Station are recommended for "Tetsuzo".
- Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?
Be sure to bring a video camera. Especially on "ryoritetsu" train trips, I take pictures of trains and stations in Honshu that I am not used to seeing. It is a fun time for me to watch them with my family when I get home and look back on the trip.
