Local Guide FAQ

What do you recommend in Nasu?

There are many bakeries in Nasu, but we recommend Bagel que-veau, a specialty bagel store. The bagels are made with "Yumekaori" wheat produced in Tochigi Prefecture, and there are about 20 varieties of bagels available every day. If you have time, climbing Chausudake ( Chausu-dake) and Asahidake ( Asahidake) is also recommended for beginners.

Please sneak in some hole-in-the-wall places that you know because you live there.

HIKARI SHOKUDO, a vegan restaurant in Kuroiso, is not a restaurant you can easily visit, as it is by reservation only and closed during the winter, but you can enjoy the best looking and tasting food that you would not expect from a vegan restaurant. The restaurant also surprises me every time with its unexpected ways of cooking vegetables. The vegetables used at HIKARI SHOKUDO can also be purchased at the unattended sales counter at the nearby 1988 CAFE SHOZO. Here you will find a lineup of fresh vegetables from the farmers who take care of Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Nasu.

Where did you travel to last year and with whom?

Last year, I traveled alone to Taiwan for 4 nights and 5 days in January. It was the first time for me to go abroad by myself, but the local people taught me a lot and I was able to have a slightly in-depth trip to Taiwan.

What do you do on your days off?

When the weather is nice, I often visit general stores and cafes or go to the mountains. After climbing a mountain, I always go to a hot spring right after descending the mountain. On rainy days, I spend my time at home slowly drinking coffee, reading or playing the piano.

Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?

I always travel with a backpack to keep both hands free as much as possible, as I want to take pictures of the scenery while traveling. I also always bring a book to read while waiting for a while. Sometimes I don't read at all. (LOL)
