Hoshino Onsen Tombo-no-yu

With an exterior inspired by a post town and a sophisticated atmosphere, Hoshino Onsen Tombo-no-yu has a history dating back to the Taisho era. The water, beloved by cultural figures including Akiko Yosano, is known as a "beauty bath" and is smooth, thick, and gentle. Your skin will feel moisturized even after you finish bathing.

The hot spring deposits (yunohana) floating in the tub are proof that the high-quality source water is used just as it is. It is a free-flowing hot spring that is also safe to drink. It was also used as a final stop for those touring the hot springs of Kusatsu Onsen.

The indoor bath is bright and open with large windows, while the open-air bath is surrounded by nature and full of rustic charm. Both are comfortable spaces where you can stretch out and relax. The indoor bath, made with cypress, is deep and designed so you can soak up to your shoulders. The open-air bath, featuring granite, makes you feel as one with nature.

Along with the seasonal scenery, our elaborately prepared seasonal baths are another highlight. We offer apple baths in the autumn and yuzu citrus baths in the winter.

Our sauna, where you can immerse yourself in calm indirect lighting and the faint sounds of jazz, is also popular. Sauna enthusiasts also appreciate our cold water bath, which uses water drawn from the Wild Bird Forest that stays around 13 degrees Celsius year-round, as well as the outdoor bathing area where you can feel the highland breeze.

You can drink the hot spring water at "Hoshino Onsen Tombo-no-yu." Being able to drink the water is a unique feature of a free-flowing hot spring. There is a drinking fountain with paper cups provided, so please give it a try.

Day-trip Bath Karuizawa Sengataki Onsen

The open-air garden bath allows you to view the seasonal scenery of Karuizawa while surrounded by trees. You can relax as if embraced by nature, listening to the rustling of the trees and the chirping of small birds, or taking in the vibrant autumn leaves and pure white snowy landscapes.

The other open-air bath is roofed, so you can bathe comfortably even on rainy or snowy days. Both open-air baths are free-flowing and feature soft, gentle water.

The indoor bath is designed to be shallow, allowing small children to bathe with peace of mind, making it a hot spring facility that families can enjoy without worry. The authentic sauna, reminiscent of a genuine Finnish cottage, is a low-temperature sauna that uses far-infrared rays to thoroughly warm you from the inside out.

Station Above the Clouds (Hishino Onsen Tokiwakan Panoramic Open-air Bath)

The panoramic open-air bath "Kumo no Suke" at Hishino Onsen Tokiwakan was renovated in 2024 as "Unjo no Teishajo" (Station Above the Clouds). You travel to the open-air bath, located at an altitude of 1,050 meters, via a private mountain railway from the main building. The train, which departs from the mountain base station next to the lobby, is a full-scale system where two cars pass each other midway. Operation is as simple as pressing a button, so you can even let your children handle it. We also offer conductor costumes for children to borrow, making it a memorable experience for kids who love vehicles.

From the open-air bath, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Tateshina, the Yatsugatake Mountains, Okuchichibu, and Sakudaira, a sight that will surely captivate you. On clear days, the summit of Mount Fuji may even peek out. The open-air bath atop the mountain changes its expression with the seasons and shows ever-changing vistas throughout the day.

Kusatsu Day-trip Hot Spring "Sainokawara Open-air Bath"

Kusatsu is famous as one of Japan's leading hot spring resorts. While it is a popular destination for both domestic and international visitors due to its unique traditions like "yumomi" (water-stirring), it also offers a wide range of facilities for day-trippers.
Among them, Sainokawara Open-Air Bath is the largest open-air bath in Kusatsu. It is an open-air-only facility that offers a sense of openness, with a combined area of approximately 500 square meters for the men's and women's baths.

The "Bandai Gensen" source has a high discharge temperature (approx. 95°C), allowing you to feel the energy from deep underground. The open-air bath, set in nature and surrounded by forest, offers a pleasant breeze across the water surface in every season, from the fresh green of spring and deep green of summer to the autumn foliage and winter snowscapes.

Although it varies by season, the time before noon is generally less crowded if you want to enjoy a relaxing soak.

This is a highly acidic hot spring unique to Kusatsu. At night, you can also enjoy bathing while gazing at a sky full of stars.

Otakinoyu

This is the recommended hot spring for those who want to enjoy a variety of baths.
In addition to open-air baths, large public baths, and saunas, it features "awase-yu," a unique Kusatsu experience. "Awase-yu" is a type of bath where the source water flows through several tubs in sequence to cool down naturally, without adding water. There are five tubs with different temperatures in the men's bath and four in the women's bath, allowing for a unique bathing experience where you start in a lukewarm tub and gradually acclimate your body to the heat.

The water is drawn from the "Nigawa Gensen" source, highly acclaimed as a "beauty bath," and is characterized by its high temperature and soft feel on the skin.
The large public bath has a high ceiling and is spacious, and there is also a waterfall bath to gently soothe your shoulders and back.

When you step out into the open-air bath, you will see the hot spring waterfall that gives the facility its name. Another attraction is that the water turns cloudy white with "yunohana" (mineral deposits) on the second and fourth Saturday of every month.

Public Bathhouse Shirahata-no-yu

The "Yubatake" is a place where you can see up close how hot spring water gushes endlessly from the source, rises in steam, travels through seven wooden conduits, and flows down into a waterfall. It is the symbol of Kusatsu Onsen, which has many abundant hot spring sources. The surrounding area is laid out like a park and includes the Yuji Plaza, themed around the Showa retro era, making it a fun spot for a stroll.
"Shirahata-no-yu" is located right in front of the "Yubatake" and is the largest of the public bathhouses. Since it uses the "Shirahata source" that gushes out right next to the "Yubatake" directly, the temperature is on the higher side, but it is a popular hot spring that even hot spring enthusiasts will appreciate.

The wooden bathtub has a charming atmosphere, and it is fun to soak in it together with the locals in a tub that fills up with just a few people.
