Karuizawa Thaliassen

Let's play to the fullest at the waterfront resort!

Karuizawa Tagliassen is a leisure facility centered around Lake Shiozawa, where visitors can enjoy a museum, Activity facilities, Restaurants, and other properties. The facility offers a variety of activities for parents and children to enjoy in the midst of nature during each of the four seasons. On the lake, visitors can experience hand-pedal boats, pedal boats, and bicycle-type amambo boats. Karuizawa Picture Book Forest Museum

Nostalgic picture book museum

The Museum of Picture Book Art is located in the "Moose Forest," the same area as the Ertz Toy Museum Karuizawa. The museum exhibits rare, one-of-a-kind original illustrations and first editions of mainly European and American picture books. In the first exhibition hall, which looks like a woody log house, there are "History of European and American Picture Books" and "Yoshida Shinichi Library," which tell the history of picture books of the world, and in the second exhibition hall, seasonal special exhibitions are held. In the third exhibition hall, a permanent exhibition of Peter Rabbit is held.

Ertz Toy Museum, Karuizawa

Heal yourself with traditional wooden toys from the Erz region of Germany!

The Erz region of Germany, located near the border with the Czech Republic, is a wooden toy town with a history of more than 300 years. Even today, there are about 150 small workshops where masters handcraft nutcrackers, pipe dolls, Christmas pyramids, miniature angels, and other toys. This museum is a collection of wooden toys that are steeped in history and culture. During the fall and winter months, a Christmas-themed wooden toy exhibition is held to immerse visitors in the warmth of the wooden world of Christmas.

Karuizawa Garden Farm

Enjoy the experience of harvesting "Karuizawa Kogen Strawberries" all year round.

Located in the Hochi district, a 15-minute drive from Karuizawa Station, this sightseeing farm offers strawberry picking all year round. The farm grows 33,000 winter strawberry plants and 13,000 summer strawberry plants in a vast 5,400 m2 vinyl greenhouse with a view of Mt. The special strawberries produced at Karuizawa Garden Farm, located 1,000 meters above sea level, are known as "Karuizawa Kogen Strawberries. As for brands, visitors can experience picking "Benihoppe" and "Crimson Misuzu" from December to the following June, and "Karuizawa Summer Queen" and "Petyka Honoka" from July to November.

Experience making jam with seasonal fruits for the whole family!

Seasonal domestic Sawaya is known for its carefully crafted jams using only the finest fruit. In Karuizawa The company operates six directly managed stores and a jam factory that also offers factory tours. Recommended here for families with children is the Jam Making Experience class. Nature tours for parents and children to experience Karuizawa's natural beauty

Picchio means "woodpecker" in Italian. With the wish to "preserve a rich forest where woodpeckers live," the company offers nature tours and day camps in the state-established "Karuizawa Wild Bird Forest," adjacent to the Hoshino Area in Nakakaruizawa.

The "Wild Bird Forest Nature Watching" is held daily throughout the year. Tsuchiya Horse Riding Club

Courses that are safe even for small children

Tsuchiya Horse Riding Club, a 9-minute walk from Nakakaruizawa Station, offers courses for beginners from 4th grade and up to lessons for advanced riders.

In addition to courses inside the riding stable, the "Fureai Course" is recommended for those who have never ridden a horse before, as it is a casual and fun course. A staff member will pull a horse around the grounds for 15 to 20 minutes, so even small children can experience horseback riding by themselves if they are strong enough to hold on. Adults can also ride with the horse in their arms.

Yukawa Furusato Park

Lots of playground equipment! A grassy park where you can play freely

Yukawa Furusato Park boasts a vast site. Because it is a town park, admission and parking are free, and the park is bustling with many parents and children. The park is divided along the Yugawa River into an upstream area, a conservation area, a center area, and a downstream area, of which the center area has a large combination playground with a variety of equipment. Usui Touge (Usui Pass) Railway Cultural Village

Experience the history of the old Usui Line

This hands-on theme park is sure to satisfy railroad enthusiasts' children, who can enjoy a variety of experiences while learning about the history of the Usui Line, which ran between Yokogawa and Karuizawa and was discontinued in 1997. An athletic facility in Komoro City where children can exercise to their heart's content. Day camps and barbecues are also available. In addition to a vast athletic field with a total area of 3,200 m2, the facility includes a barbecue area, a camp field, and an indoor Comorovi stadium, offering a variety of ways to have fun. During the summer, visitors can use the "Forest Fountain" for playing with water and observing living creatures, as well as try their hand at woodcrafts using pine cones and acorns. The centerpiece of the museum's facilities is the planetarium, which reproduces approximately 8 million fixed stars. The 4K clear image of the starry sky that fills the dome is breathtaking. The planetarium projects four times on weekdays and six times on Saturdays and Sundays. The "Moon Walker" on the third floor is popular among children. Visitors can experience a walk on the moon using a training device that simulates the gravity of the moon.

Makiba Karuizawa

Even beginners can enjoy a walk in the forest

Makiba Karuizawa is an Activity spot where horseback riding can be enjoyed. Horses raised on pasture in the vast lands of Hokkaido spend their time in the same pasture. Many of the horses are obedient and docile, classified as an intermediate breed, making them ideal for beginner riders.

Visitors can enjoy the "Dusty Stroll Course (approx. 50 minutes)" for beginners and the "Mamari Mori Course (approx. 100 minutes)" for experienced riders, and the equipment necessary for horseback riding is available for free rental, so visitors can come empty-handed. Rain gear is also provided, so even on rainy days, there is no need to worry.

Fun for the whole family

The "Dusty Stroll Course," popular with beginners, includes a 20-minute lesson on basic movement such as starting and stopping, followed by a 30-minute walk through the forest on horseback. The course takes participants through forest paths and grasslands at the foot of Mount Asama, and sometimes along roadless paths. Depending on the season and time of year, you can enjoy the most beautiful scenery and forests at the time of your visit. The "Dusty Stroll Course" requires that participants be at least 9 years old and able to operate the reins by themselves.

On an irregular basis, the museum also holds events such as horseback riding experiences for children under 9 years old, a "pulling horse experience" where the horses are taken from the pasture to the stable, and a "horse costume removal experience".

Experience harvesting seasonal crops

This tourist farm in Kita Karuizawa is a large 15,000 tsubo (15,000 m2) farm that grows more than 50 different kinds of crops. Both vegetables and fruits can be harvested and eaten from any of the garden's crops. Furthermore, there is no time limit, so visitors can stroll around the spacious garden and take their time to find the seasonal delicacies they are looking for. There is also a shaded resting area in the garden, which is a nice feature.
Salt to put on the vegetables is provided, but those who want to enjoy different flavors can bring their own mayonnaise, miso, etc. Many repeat visitors bring their own favorite seasonings for the harvest experience.

Many handmade jams and other processed products

The harvest experience is available for four months from mid-July to mid-November each year. Fruits such as plums, blueberries, peaches, and apples, and highland vegetables such as tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, and cabbage are cultivated, and the entrance fee varies depending on what you can harvest. The experience of watching crops grow up close is a special time for children. The experience of harvesting will also deepen their interest in food.
The garden also produces additive-free, handmade jams and juices using fruits from the garden, as well as jars of Kita Karuizawa's specialty flower beans and cooked flower beans, which make great souvenirs.
