There are many places you will want to visit! Tateyamaji hot spring excursion

There are many places in and around Tateyamaji Hot Spring that make you want to go out of your way, such as spots with a spectacular view of Lake Hamana, historic temples and shrines, and famous eels restaurants. All of them are only a 15-minute walk from the center of Tateyama-ji Hot Spring, so you can easily enjoy a stroll.

Tateyama-dera Temple is located on top of a small mountain about 5 minutes walk from the Tateyama-dera Hot Spring bus stop, and is an old temple founded by Kobo Daishi (Kukai) in 810. The main hall overlooks Lake Hamana. From the main hall, you can see the gondolas of the ropeway and sightseeing boats coming and going. After visiting the temple, be sure to stop by the large temple bell, located 30 meters above the lake, which is open to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visitors are free to strike the bell by paying 100 yen per strike into the money-offering box. The huge bell, said to be one of the largest in Shizuoka Prefecture, makes a deep and long sound.

The more you walk along the promenade of temples and shrines, the more your heart will be refreshed.

Next, we went to the Jizo Son, a Buddhist image of marriage, located next to the main hall. The shrine is filled with ema (votive picture tablet), which is a sign of the temple's high level of blessings. The Tateyama Walkway is maintained within the grounds of Tateyama-dera Temple, and you can follow the trail to the top of the mountain. There is also an observatory on the way to the top of the mountain, where you can enjoy an open view of Lake Hamana below. In addition, there is a statue of Sacred Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, Anadaishi, a rock pit where Kobo Daishi (Kukai) practiced asceticism when he founded the temple, which is said to have the merit of healing eye diseases, and Tosaka Iwa, where you can view a beautiful sunset.

Eels are one of Hamamatsu's most famous specialties. One of the best restaurants representing the Kanzanji hot spring area is Matsunoya, a long-established restaurant founded in 1969 (Showa 44). The store is located about 3 minutes from the Tateyamaji Onsen bus stop toward Monzen Street, right next to the welcome gate at the southern end of the hot spring resort area. The restaurant serves Kansai-style kabayaki (broiled eel) that does not require steaming. The kabayaki is so large that the meat protrudes from the bowl, and the crispy texture is exquisite at first bite. The fragrance of the secret sauce stands out, and as you eat more and more, the rich flavor of the eel fills your mouth.

The eel is crispy on the skin and soft and fluffy inside. The oyster hippopotamus bowl, available only in winter, is also recommended!

A five-minute walk from the Tateyamaji Onsen bus stop, the beach stretches from north to south on the western shore of Lake Hamana, west of the Tateyamaji hot spring resort area. The waves are calm, making it a relaxing spot to enjoy a stroll along the shoreline or sit on the steps by the beach and enjoy the scenic view of Lake Hamana. Especially at sunset, when the sun sets far across the shore of Lake Hamana, the sky and the surface of the lake are tinged with a reddish-blue color, making you forget about time for a moment.
During the swimming season, showers are open. The shallow beach is a great place for swimming, sea kayaking, and windsurfing.

The waves are calm and the long, clean sandy beach is safe for small children and novice swimmers.

The Kanzanji Ropeway is located at the Hamanako Pal Pal amusement park. It is the only ropeway in Japan that crosses over the lake, departing from "Kanzanji Station" and heading for "Okusa-yama Station" at the top of Mt. The ropeway is 723 meters long and takes about 4 minutes to walk in the air. The 360-degree view of open Lake Hamana from the gondola is well worth seeing. The view from the gondola is spectacular, and the fact that you are on the lake below gives you a unique floating sensation. The "Okusayama Observatory" at the top of the mountain is a great location from which you can enjoy a panoramic view of not only the Lake Hamana area, but also the Pacific Ocean in the distance.
At the "Hamanako Music Box Museum" adjacent to the observatory, visitors can enjoy an exhibition of rare music boxes from the mid-19th century and demonstrations of automatic organs.

The view of Lake Hamana spreading out below you as you climb up the beach will make you feel liberated.
