A flagship location for “Arts Towada,” a city-building project through art organized by Towada City. The permanent collection features 42 original works created specifically for this museum by world-renowned artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Yoko Ono, and sculptor Ron Mueck.
The exhibition adopts an “installation” style, where each work has its own dedicated room, transforming the entire exhibition space into a work of art. Each exhibition room is connected by a glass-enclosed corridor, allowing visitors to enjoy the experience as if they were strolling through a house of art.
After your tour, be sure to visit the museum café. There, you can enjoy limited-time desserts inspired by the works in the special exhibition, as well as coffee served in cups created in collaboration with the artists.

Art spots can also be found in the city.

 Clouds in the Shopping Arcade
Clouds in the Shopping Arcade" by Erika Hidaka Photo by Kuniya Oyamada

This museum is a work of art, not only in the courtyard and on the roof, but also in the building itself. In addition, street furniture is scattered along the Kanchogaidori (government office district) and shopping streets that pass in front of the museum.
The "Clouds of the Shopping Street," a bench in the shape of an iridescent cloud, is tall enough to look up at and is full of playful spirit. The sidewalks in the shopping arcade are covered, so visitors can enjoy the shopping arcade without worrying about the weather.
In the art plaza, there are objects with polka dot motifs by "Yayoi Kusama" and other unique artworks. Visitors can actually touch and experience the world of these works, including the "Fat House," which is so unique that even on a rainy day, visitors will want to walk around and look at it.

The tourist information center is located in the Yakiyama area, the gateway to the Oirase mountain stream. At the "Oirase Moss Ball Workshop," visitors can experience making kokedama, a type of Japanese bead-shaped ball. Kokedama" are made by wrapping the roots of plants such as beech, maple, and ferns in soil and attaching moss to the surface. Visitors can take home the atmosphere of the mossy Oirase Stream as it is, making it a great souvenir of their trip.
Visitors can also make lamps using gourds grown with water from the Oirase River. The lamps are made by drilling holes in the surface of the gourd and decorating it with a moss motif, which looks fantastic when lit. The lamps are not only for your own use, but also make great gifts.

 RENAULT 35CV
RENAULT 35CV" launched in 1911.

From old-fashioned cars that make you feel as if you have stepped back in time to fantastic masterpieces, there is a collection of classic cars from Japan and abroad. Visitors can see more than 50 cars, mainly American, British, and Japanese-made. Among them are some of the most valuable cars in automotive history, such as the "Renault 35CV," which was very popular in France more than 100 years ago, and the "TOYOTA 2000GT," which appeared as a Bond car in the movie "007 Dies Twice," making them well worth a visit. Moreover, the vivid colors and retro designs are all fashionable. Even those who are not familiar with cars or women can enjoy them.

You can even test drive a racing machine!

In the foreground is the "Supra GT" test car, which was called a monster machine with an output of more than 470 horsepower.

The classic cars are carefully restored, not only the bodies, but also the engine parts, down to the single screw. Visitors can watch the restoration process from close by, and in the racing car corner, there are formula cars and GT cars that allow visitors to actually sit in the driver's seat and test the comfort of the ride. In particular, the test car of the "Supra GT," which won the GT500 class of the "All Japan GT Championship," was actually driven at Fuji Speedway and Suzuka Circuit. The body paint has been kept as it was in those days, and the scratches left behind are very realistic. The intense racing atmosphere will make you feel like a racer.
