The first open-air museum in Japan that blends in with the natural beauty of Hakone. The museum's 70,000 m2 grounds are dotted with approximately 120 works by famous Japanese and foreign sculptors of the modern and contemporary era, including the French sculptor Rodin and Taro Okamoto.
Recommended for rainy days is the museum's suggested "Rainy Day Course," which focuses on the indoor exhibition spaces, including the Main Building Gallery and the Picasso Pavilion. Starting from the Honkan Gallery, the course takes about 60 to 90 minutes to visit the Art Hall, Picasso Pavilion, shopping malls and cafes. The outdoor sculptures that you will visit along the course will give you a different look from the usual.

One of the most popular indoor exhibition spaces on the "Rainy Day Course" is the Picasso Pavilion, which was renovated in July 2019. Starting with ceramic works that Picasso started at the age of 65, about 300 works including oil paintings, prints, and tapestries are sequentially on display. Visitors can experience the diverse charm of the museum.
The special exhibitions held in the art hall are also popular as a way to get a closer look at art. The "Sculpture Forest Laboratory" and the "Symphony Sculpture to Bring Happiness" are also must-see attractions for visitors outside of the course. Inside the tower, countless stained glass windows shine, creating a fantastic atmosphere.

About a 12-minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station, this popular pottery studio is located in the tranquil woods of Sounji Temple, a famous temple of the Daitokuji School of Rinzai Zen Buddhism. In the atmospheric building, which used to be the tea room of the previous abbot of Sounji, visitors can experience making ceramics such as teacups, bowls, and tumblers. Since the studio is reserved by reservation only, visitors can concentrate on their work in a relaxed atmosphere without worrying about other Guest/customers. If you make a reservation in advance, you can also enjoy a tai gohan bento box from Yoraku, a tai gohan kaiseki restaurant in Tonosawa.

For the pottery experience, visitors can use 500 grams of clay to create their own pottery vessels, using either an electric potter's wheel or a hand-built potter's wheel. If you want to feel like a potter, choose the electric potter's wheel. The store staff will teach you carefully, so even inexperienced or clumsy potters can create authentic works of art. Once the molding of the piece is completed, it will be shaved, dried, glazed, and unglazed at the workshop, then fired and delivered to your home via home delivery at a later date.

There are currently 20 hot springs in the Hakone area. The seven Hakone hot springs of Yumoto, Tonosawa, Miyanoshita, Dogashima, Ashinoyu, Sokokura, and Ubako or Kiga have a long history and have been popular with many people since the Edo period. The quality of the hot springs at Tonosawa Onsen is alkaline simple hot spring. It is known as "hot water for beautiful skin" because of its softness against the skin. Enjoying the hot spring with the sound of rain as background music is truly a blissful experience.
After Yuagari lounge, be sure to visit the Irori Saryo Yari Dining Area. Guests/customers often come just for the food, as the river fish grilled over the charcoal fire in the sunken hearth and the grilled fish with miso (soybean flour) leaves all have a rustic taste.

The aquarium is located in Hakone-En, a complex of more than 20 Properties on the shores of Lake Ashi, including a Restaurant, Daytrip Destinations, a Specialty Products Corner, and an Experience Corner. Located at an elevation of 723 meters, the aquarium is the highest saltwater aquarium in Japan, and is divided into two Properties: the Seawater Freshwater Pavilion and the Baikal Seal Plaza. In the "Saltwater Freshwater Pavilion," rare and colorful tropical fish from the world's oceans are on display, as well as freshwater fish from Lake Ashi and other rivers and lakes, and four types of penguins.

The aquarium's visitors are comforted by the young otters, which bathe, play, and play with each other. Bathing, playing, and napping together. Enjoy the history and tradition of Hakone Ekiden through exhibits

The Hakone Ekiden, now a popular New Year's tradition and a major sporting event, can be viewed at this museum, which looks back on the historic ekiden relay race that began in 1920, along with many other materials and history. The building is located right in front of the finish line of the outward and return legs of the Hakone Ekiden. Inside the museum, Hakone Ekiden fans will find a variety of exhibits, including photos from the first race to the present day, sectional record data of the contestants, and the uniforms of those who won the seeding rights for the next race.

To learn more about the Hakone Ekiden, we recommend the "Hakone Ekiden History Tour" (free of charge), which is conducted by museum staff/staff members and takes about 20 minutes twice a day from 10:00 and 15:30. The tour includes explanations of the exhibits and episodes of the famous Hakone Ekiden games and famous athletes and coaches. After viewing the exhibits, be sure to visit the museum store. In addition to original goods, official goods of the Hakone Ekiden Tournament are available for purchase. They are sure to be appreciated as unusual Hakone souvenirs. There is also a café where you can enjoy light meals and sweets, so you can spend a fulfilling time even on a rainy day.
