1Yumochi Honpo Chimoto "Yumochi
A cottony, fluffy rice cake wrapped in a bamboo skin.
A long-established Japanese confectionary store that has been in business for about 70 years and boasts a number of famous confections. The "Yumochi," named after the hot spring resort of "Yuba," which has flourished in Hakone since ancient times, is a Japanese confectionery that evokes the image of soft skin bathed in hot spring water. Made from domestic glutinous rice, it is a combination of white bean flour and meringue-like egg white, creating a unique texture that seems to vanish in the mouth. The yokan, which is made to resemble the rocks of the Hayakawa River that flows through the city, is accented with the refreshing aroma of yuzu (Japanese citron). Each one is individually wrapped in bamboo bark, making it a delightful souvenir of a tasteful trip.
You will also find other freshly made sweet treats using selected ingredients, such as "Yari," a bell-shaped monaka with sweetened sweet bean paste, and "Warabimochi," a type of rice cake with a sweetened bean paste.

4Kawabe Koueido "Kuosen sembei
Western-style rice crackers with the delicious light texture of thinly baked rice crackers
Established in 1879, this store specializes in thinly baked rice crackers. The rice crackers are not Japanese-style crackers made from rice, but have a Western flavor made from wheat flour. The founder, who originally ran a Japanese-style confectionery shop, invented the idea of creating a Western-style confectionery for the many foreign guests who visit the surrounding hotels. Since then, the same ingredients and production methods have been used. In addition to flour, white bean flour, unsalted margarine, eggs, and other ingredients are combined, placed in thinly baked molds, and baked piece by piece without taking your eyes off the cake.
Along with the rustic flavor, the retro tin can in which the rice crackers are packaged has gained a reputation. The tin cans are specially ordered from a can specialist to match the size of the rice crackers, and are wrapped in an original design that has been loved for more than 100 years.
