A 10-minute drive from Nishinasuno Station, this nature park is located on a small hill at an elevation of 297 meters. There are approximately 1,300 cherry trees, mainly Someiyoshino, in the park, and when they are at their best, the park is enveloped in a light red color. During the cherry blossom viewing season, many families and other visitors relax on leisure sheets. There are also many food stalls near the park entrance. There is a pond, a Japanese garden, and a promenade, so why not take a leisurely stroll while viewing the cherry blossoms?
If you are going by car, we recommend taking the route from the "Karasugamori Park Entrance" intersection on National Route 4 to the park. The roadside is lined with magnificent cherry trees, and you can enjoy the cherry blossoms from the car window.

The urban park is a 15-minute walk from Kuroiso Station. In spring, approximately 230 cherry trees, including Someiyoshino cherry trees, are in full bloom, making it a popular cherry blossom viewing spot. In particular, from the Fureai Bridge on the north side of the park, visitors can view the cherry blossoms against the backdrop of the majestic Nasu Mountain Range, making it a spectacular spot visited by many photo enthusiasts. The "Kuroiso Cherry Blossom Festival" is held every year from mid-April, with food stalls lined up throughout the park, and the cherry blossoms are lit up at night with bonbori lanterns.
Kuroiso Park is also known as a famous place for katakuris (dogtooth violet), and more than 15,000 katakuris grow in clusters in the "Katakuri no Sato" area of the park. The best time to see them is around the same time as the cherry blossoms. The vivid reddish-purple flowers filling the slopes are a must-see sight.
In addition, you can see a child cherry tree of "Takizakura" from Miharu-cho, Fukushima Prefecture, one of the three most famous cherry trees in Japan, at Shimizu Pond in Nakagawa Riverside Park, which is adjacent to Kuroiso Park.

The lone cherry tree is located in a community cemetery near "Terako Ichirizuka," approximately 10 minutes by car east of Kuroiso Station. Locally called "Terako no sakura" (cherry tree of Terako), it has been familiar to the locals for a long time, and its age is estimated to be about 300 years or more than 350 years old. It is one of the largest cherry trees in Tochigi Prefecture, with a trunk circumference of 6.5 m and a height of approximately 16 m. Although the species itself is the edohigan-zakura, which grows wild widely throughout Japan, it is rare to find one this large, and it has been selected as one of the "100 Famous Trees of Tochigi. During the blooming period, the tree is illuminated by local volunteers, and its appearance in the dark is even more impressive.
Note that the location may not be easy to locate with a car navigation system or map application, so please be careful when visiting. There is an information board along Prefectural Route 178 that reads "Edohigan Sakura Entrance", so use it as a landmark.

This is a colony of azaleas located about 1,100 meters above sea level on the middle of Mount Chausu ( Chausu-dake (Mt.)) in the Nasu mountain range. During the annual blooming season around mid-May, the entire plateau is filled with approximately 200,000 azaleas of various kinds, and during the peak season in late May, most of the park area is dyed bright red. It has also been selected as one of the "100 scenic beauty spots" and "100 scenic spots in Tochigi" by the Ministry of the Environment.
The first is the Hachiman azalea colony, located on a highland overlooking the Nasu Plateau, where there is a 360-degree observation platform from which visitors can view a panorama of azaleas in full bloom with the Nasu Mountains in the background. The other is "Yahata Minami Tsutsuji Community," which is located at a lower elevation. The walkway has almost no difference in elevation and is recommended for children and the elderly. Those who wish to visit both areas should start from the Yahata azalea colony.
