2Butter's Cousin
Waffle-like sweets with a new texture of "crunchy and fluffy
The white container with "GOOD NEWS" written on it is a landmark. Tourists often line up from morning for the "butter cousin," the sweet that gives the store its name. It is a baked sweet with a new texture, made mainly from fat-free milk, with a milky, caramel-like jam sandwiched between buttery gaufrette (waffle) dough. In Nasu, where there are many dairy farmers, the development of this product was inspired by the desire to use the nonfat milk left over from the butter making process in a delicious and waste-free way. Under the supervision of the patissier who owns a restaurant in Yoyogi-Hachiman, Tokyo, this new Nasu brand pastry was created through a process of trial and error, and looks cute too.
Product name and price: "Butter's Cousin (milk, chocolate, red bean butter, caramel)" (3 pieces per box), 972 yen each.
Shelf life: 14 days from the date of manufacture.
Freshly made doughnuts and limited-edition drinks are also available.
The store also carries a lineup of doughnuts made with fat-free milk, just like their "butter cousins. The doughnuts are baked instead of deep-fried, so they are light and fluffy. There are four flavors to choose from, including "butter doughnut" and "old fashioned. In addition to sales, there is a café where you can enjoy original sweets made with freshly made doughnuts and drinks. The frozen drinks made from fat-free milk and cow's milk are available in limited flavors for each season, making it worth stopping by every time you visit Nasu.

Making sweets is a way of expressing our love for Japan's beautiful nature.
The theme of the confectionery is "Japan's beautiful nature. For example, "Banrai" was created with the image of a round drum of thunder. This was inspired by the mountainous regions of Nikko and Nasu, where thunderstorms frequently occur, and where thunder that brings rain has been considered a good omen for a bountiful harvest. The image of "Tanabikikikan" was inspired by "the beautiful scenery of a sea of clouds in the morning when clouds begin to rise and trail. Both have won prizes at the National Confectionary Exposition and are known for their taste. Please be sure to pick up a souvenir of the delicate confections produced in the rich natural environment of Nasu.
