Osaka is a city full of unique local cuisine. Among them, "konamon," or flour-based cuisine, is an indispensable part of Osaka's gourmet life. Takoyaki and okonomiyaki, which are made with dashi (Japanese soup stock) flavored batter, grilled on a hot griddle, and topped with a rich sauce and mayonnaise, are two of the most popular delicacies you must try when visiting Osaka. Here are five recommended restaurants, ranging from long-established establishments frequented by locals to take-out stores where you can stop by casually.
Takoyaki

The rajioyaki with sujikon, the predecessor of takoyaki, is a must-try!
This long-established restaurant is well known as the originator of takoyaki. The specialty "Radioyaki" is said to be the forerunner of takoyaki and was created as a snack for children with miso flavored beef tendon and "sujikon" konjak. It was named after a radio and radium hot spring. Later, the signature item "Ganso Takoyaki" was created in imitation of "Akashiyaki". The "New Radioyaki," which includes scallops and pork tenderloin instead of suji konbu, is also available. The menu varies from store to store, so you can enjoy a new Radioyaki at each store. We encourage you to visit different restaurants during your stay in Osaka.

This take-out store specializes in takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and yakisoba, and has about 50 outlets in the Kansai region. The takoyaki offers a variety of unique items that can only be tasted here. The recommended "Umashio Flavor" is freshly made takoyaki sprinkled with "Fleur de Sel," a natural salt from France, to add a crispy texture. The use of a high-heat iron plate makes the outside crispy and fragrant, while the inside is fluffy and fluffy. The taste will keep you coming back for more. 3Shinsekai Kankan
Enjoy large, fluffy takoyaki in the heart of Shinsekai
A long-established takoyaki restaurant representing Shinsekai. Located in the center of the city, a short walk from Tsutenkaku Tower, the storefront is always bustling with customers.
The menu has remained unchanged since its establishment: takoyaki only. It is topped with sauce, dried bonito flakes, and green laver. Despite its simple appearance, the fluffy batter with a gentle broth aroma and the crunchy texture created by the four types of tenkasu (dregs of heavenly fish) accelerate your appetite. The large size of the takoyaki, made with a custom-made hand-engraved copper plate, makes it a satisfying meal.
You can also enjoy daytime drinking with freshly made hot takoyaki and beer!
When Shinsekai was established in 2000, there were still few stores selling takoyaki in Shinsekai. The owner's family used the land they owned to open a takoyaki store that focuses solely on the taste of takoyaki. In the heart of a town that is changing with the times, we continue to sell the authentic taste of Osaka at a reasonable price.
The counter and tables are set up in front of the restaurant so that customers can enjoy freshly made takoyaki right away. Beer, highballs, and soft drinks are also available, so you can enjoy a lunchtime drink while enjoying the lively Shinsekai atmosphere.

4Usagiya
Special okonomiyaki with seafood and meat flavors at the same time
Founded in 1951, this okonomiyaki restaurant has the longest history in Shinsekai. Currently, the restaurant is run by the third-generation owner and his family.
We recommend the "mixed takoyaki. The ground beef, which is unique to Osaka where the beef culture is deeply rooted, adds a juicy and chewy meaty texture to the whole okonomiyaki. You can also enjoy the flavor of shrimp and squid, making it a luxurious and filling dish. A griddle twice as thick as usual is used, making it crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. We also recommend the "Special Mixed Balls" with oysters added to the mixed balls.
A variety of teppan dishes and the restaurant's original "Usoyaki" are also noteworthy!
Founded by the grandmother of the current owner, the restaurant originally served okonomiyaki in a corner of a store that sold cosmetics and other products. Today, the restaurant attracts many customers from Japan and abroad, with lines forming at lunchtime.
The restaurant's original "Usoyaki" is a dish that was born from a regular customer's request to add udon noodles to yakisoba. It is said that it was the customer who gave the unique name "Uso-yaki" to the dish by combining udon and soba noodles. Other dishes such as tonpeiyaki and squid salt yaki are also available, as well as oden in the cold season.
5Okonomiyaki Den
Special okonomiyaki topped with plenty of delicacies from the sea and mountains
This okonomiyaki restaurant is particular about the ingredients it uses. The specialty is the "Den Special," a pork and squid ball okonomiyaki topped with a variety of sea and mountain delicacies. The dish was created with the theme of "okonomiyaki that is complete in one dish." It is topped with sujikon, scallop butter, fried egg, and two head shrimps, all of which are snacks for drinking, and the okonomiyaki can be enjoyed at the end.
The cabbage, which is the heart of okonomiyaki, is made from "Senshu cabbage," which has a high quality sweetness and freshness. The homemade sauce and mayonnaise have a gentle, unobtrusive flavor that brings out the original deliciousness of the ingredients.
Fresh vegetables from farmers all over Japan are used in the menu.
The restaurant focuses on using vegetables from farmers it has met while traveling throughout Japan. The restaurant's first encounter with Sotoya Farm, which grows Senshu cabbage, was the catalyst for the restaurant's efforts.
The owner visits the farmers himself to help grow the vegetables, so the restaurant is open only at night. With the goal of "creating a restaurant that will be supported by farmers from all over Japan," the restaurant offers a menu that allows customers to fully enjoy the deliciousness of local specialties from each region by utilizing the cooking and preservation methods learned from the farmers. The menu also includes dishes such as vegetable steaks that use the most delicious seasonal vegetables at that time of the year, so every time you come to the restaurant, you will encounter new tastes.
