The French Restaurant "Domaine de Mikuni" by Seizo Mikuni left Karuizawa and opened in January 2024 on the former site. We want people to enjoy Italian food in a casual atmosphere without being overbearing. Children are also welcome," says the owner. The special french fries, which were developed for children to enjoy, are said to be very popular among adults as well.

The menu at Iihashidate is mainly a la carte for both lunch and dinner. Families are encouraged to order four to six dishes to share, ranging from appetizers to primo piatto (first course) pasta dishes and secondo piatto (second course) meat and fish entrees. If you have small children, reserving a private room is recommended. You can dine while enjoying the sunlight pouring in through the large glass windows and the natural beauty of Karuizawa.

Enjoy the best eel and Shinshu river fish dishes with your family!

This is a famous restaurant where you can taste river fish dishes associated with Nagano Prefecture, such as ayu (sweetfish), iwana (char), shinano yukimasu (trout), and Shinshu salmon. One of the signature dishes is eel. The Kanto style eel is steamed and broiled to perfection, making it plump and thick with an addictive taste. If you want to enjoy it with your children, we recommend ordering the "eel with sauce onigiri" together. Even hungry children will be satisfied with the onigiri soaked in the secret sauce that has been added to the dish.

The restaurant has both table seating and tatami rooms, and there is also seating for three generations of the family. If you are so inclined, we recommend visiting on foot or by cab to enjoy a drink. You can enjoy local cuisine such as grilled sweetfish (seasonal), sashimi of rockfish, washed Saku carp, fried chaya, and other local delicacies, as well as Shinshu sake. The Shinshu salmon sashimi is popular among children. The clear, contoured flavor with no odor will satisfy even adults.

The steaks and hizumabushi made with Shinshu Alps beef are superb!

Opened in July 2024 on the premises of Hotel Berlinetta Karuizawa, this Western-style restaurant and cafe features a cute Western-style exterior. The signature menu features a variety of meat dishes using brand-name Shinshu Alps beef, and there are many choices, such as beef hittomabushi, a sumptuous sirloin, and a hearty loin steak. The well-balanced sweetness of the fat and soft texture of Shinshu Alps beef will surely satisfy even children. It is a good idea to order more than one menu item to share with your family.

Children's plates, omelettes, and other children's menu items are also available.

There is also a full menu for children. One of the most popular among families is the "children's plate," which includes a hamburger steak, large fried shrimp, and an extra toy. This is offered at a reasonable price not only for lunch but also for dinner. Other items on the a la carte menu include Caesar salad with Karuizawa fruit tomatoes, Shinshu salmon carpaccio, and other dishes using local ingredients.

Authentic Italian cuisine with children in mind

This Italian restaurant opened in Karuizawa in 2000 and moved to its current location on the same site in 2023.
The bagna cauda is one of the most popular dishes that both children and adults have had once and will order again the next time. The sauce is a creamy type made with garlic and anchovies. The vegetables are served with the warm bagna sauce. The vegetables are locally produced for local consumption as much as possible, and depending on the season, you can find vegetables grown by contract farmers using natural farming methods or organic farming.

The chef's wife, who is in charge of service, is a mother of five children. She wanted to create a restaurant where people with children could casually enjoy authentic Italian cuisine. For example, we recommend boiling pasta a little softer, and for small children in the late weaning stage or later, we recommend dipping "natural hoshino yeast bread" in "organic corn soup.

You can even dine while putting your baby to sleep!

When entering the Restaurant, you have to take off your shoes. Tables are available, but the most popular seating for those with children is the zataku. You can lay a long futon by the zataku and let your baby sleep on it, and there are beanbags for children as well. The restrooms are equipped with a simple diaper changing table and are fully child-friendly. However, please remember that this is basically a Restaurant for the enjoyment of various generations, so please behave in a respectful manner.

Sonmin-Shokudo

Casual Restaurant where you can enjoy a special menu

Sonmin-Shokudo is a casual dining restaurant adjacent to Hoshino Onsen Tombo-no-yu, named after the novel "Beautiful Village" by Tatsuo Hori, who wrote about Karuizawa. Since there are no set hours, the restaurant is popular with families throughout the day.
The Caesar salad here uses half a ball of lettuce and is topped with bacon, croutons, hot spring eggs, and other toppings inside the flower-like opening. It is a popular menu item that is fun to eat and to cut into pieces by themselves.
Children can experience the taste of fresh lettuce, which is crispy, fresh, and sweet.

Everyone's favorite hamburger steak is also Shinshu style!

The hamburger steak is cooked in miso style, and the set meal with a thick layer of cheese is very popular. Miso and cheese are fermented foods that go well together, deepening the flavor synergistically. It is a delicious dish unique to Shinshu that will satisfy not only children but adults as well.

Enjoy traditional German flavors in Karuizawa!

You can enjoy typical German home-style dishes prepared by a chef who has obtained a Meister's certificate in Munich, Germany. Among them are authentic sausages made with domestically produced pork and spices purchased from Germany. The most popular item is the "Recommended 4 Kinds of Sausages" which allows you to compare the "Puerzer" (roughly ground sausage), "Weisswurst" (white sausage), and other sausages. The "Fleischkäse," a sausage dough steamed like a meatloaf, is an easy-to-eat dish for children. The "Eisbein," a traditional German dish of braised pork shank, is also excellent.

Minerva Tea House

A nostalgic teahouse with a wide variety of original menu items

Celebrating its 41st year in Karuizawa, this long-established Restaurant features a building that looks like an English Western-style house. As the name "Chabo" suggests, the restaurant started out as a coffee shop where drinks were the main attraction, but then there were requests to add food to the menu, so the restaurant began serving pasta. Our original fresh pasta is characterized by its sticky texture. Egg pasta with egg is usually used, but dried noodles are also available for those with egg allergies. All sauces are homemade, and cream sauces are especially good with pasta.

Home-style seasoning makes it easy for children to eat.

The pizza is a must-try along with the pasta. The thin dough is crispy and you can taste the flavor of the dough itself. The "Pizza with Plenty of Vegetables in Miso Sauce" made with Shinshu miso has a gentle flavor that matches the sweetness of the miso and vegetables. Both pasta and pizza can be shared with children. In addition, the "Dinner Set" for two, which includes half-and-half pizza, fresh pasta, handmade ice cream or yogurt, and a drink, is priced at 3,000 yen. The restaurant also offers a terrace and room for pets.
