What fireworks festivals do you recommend in Atami in the summer? Schedule and Highlights

Atami's fireworks festival is a great place to enjoy a spectacular light show while feeling the pleasant sea breeze. The brightly colored fireworks shot into the night sky from the sea are unobstructed and full of power. In addition to the "Atami Marine Fireworks Display," a year-round Atami specialty, the "Taga Bay Marine Fireworks Display" and the "Izuyama Hot Spring Noryo Marine Fireworks Display," which has the longest history in Atami, are other Atami summer night festivals to be enjoyed.

The "Great Aerial Niagara" is a spectacular display on the sea.

This now famous fireworks display has continued for more than 70 years since its first display in 1952. It is held not only in summer but also several times a season. Atami Bay, where the fireworks are launched, is surrounded on three sides by mountains in a "mortar" shape. The sound of the fireworks over the sea reverberates off the mountains, making the sound as powerful as if you were in a large stadium.
The highlight of the festival is the finale, "Niagara in the Sky. Instead of a trick fireworks display, a series of starmines will be launched from the entire bay. The silver fireworks fill the night sky, and the sound of the fireworks is like the echoing of the earth. It is a moving moment to be experienced with the eyes, ears, and body.

The Taga Bay Marine Fireworks Festival, held in Ito Taga, two stops from Atami Station on the JR Ito Line, is an event that welcomes the Bon Festival, along with the 300-year-old traditional event of the Hyakuhachi Nagareto Festival (held on August 16). From the jetties at Nagahama Seaside Park, approximately 2,000 colorful fireworks, including starmines and the famous "red aerial Niagara," are shot off one after another, adding color and splendor to the night in Taga. The fireworks can be seen at close range on the beach, making it a very powerful event.
From 5:00 p.m., "Nagahama Beer Festa" and stage events will be held, so it is recommended to enjoy the spectacular fireworks display with a cold beer in your hand.

The gold and silver Niagara "match-making fireworks" are worth seeing!

The annual fireworks display is held on August 3 at Izuyama, the meeting place of Minamoto no Yoritomo and Hojo Masako. It has the oldest history in Atami and will be held for the 75th time in 2025. Compared to other fireworks festivals, the number of starmines is by far the largest, and the fireworks are launched from the port of Izuyama, making it a very powerful event. The night sky is filled with large flowers.
The finale, when the gold and silver Niagara fireworks are launched, is the most exciting part of the festival. Commonly called "match-making fireworks," some couples make a wish for love.
