Hello, my name is Yuki Tatsui, and I am a writer. I am the author of the book "Strong and Good! Local Food Chain (PHP Kenkyujo)", so this time I was able to revisit a restaurant that was also featured in the book. It is a heavyweight chain in Ibaraki with that "absolute specialty udon" that is always very good.

It is the Bando Taro Group, a large Japanese family restaurant chain based in the northern Kanto region. This time we visited Bando Taro Tsuchiura Otsuno Branch.

The Bando Taro Group operates 86 restaurants, including the mainstay Bando Taro Japanese Restaurant, 59 of which are located in Ibaraki Prefecture.

We spoke with Yasuko Kosuge, Manager of the Co-operative Education Section of the Head Office of Bando Taro Co.

Bando Taro has a popular Bando Taro In addition to the popular Bando Taro, there are only two rare stores, such as this Tsuchiura Otsuno Store, which is located in Tsuchiura. Bando Taro The first is Bando Taro.

First of all, "Bando Taro" is a Japanese family restaurant familiar to residents of Ibaraki Prefecture. It is a standard type of restaurant that appeals to a wide range of customers because of its value-priced lunch menu.

Kanji's "Bando Taro" is a spacious restaurant with private rooms. It offers a relaxing dining experience and meets the needs of senior citizens, among others.

In addition, Bandotaro Grouphasas many as 16 unknown businesses. The Tsuchiura Station, the center of the southern part of the prefecture, is also located nearby,

The reason for such a large number of restaurants is "to accommodate those who want to eat different food when there are other businesses. The reason for this large number of restaurants is that "having other types of businesses allows us to cater to those who want to eat something different. First, in 1993, the company opened "KATSUTARO," a suburban-style pork cutlet restaurant, which was rare at the time.

Later, we took over "Steak House Horo Basha," which had no successor, and launched "8yo Aoi Cafe," a café business that can easily be entrusted to young managers.

Now, let's have a taste of the famous menu items that are served at many restaurants of "Bando Taro Group" as a common menu.

Specialty menu "Bando Miso-nikomi Udon" that suits Kanto people's palate

First up is Bando Taro's signature item and the group's symbolic menu item, the Bando Miso Stewed Udon Noodles The dish is called "Banto-Taro" (meaning "hot" in Japanese).

It is stewed over a hot fire and served piping hot.

The base miso is a "layered (blended) flavor" of Hatcho miso aged for three years by Kakkyu Miso, which was once under Imperial Household Agency warrant and was established in 1645, and a miso that Bando Taro keeps out of the gate.

The chicken tsukune (chicken meatballs) and other ingredients also give off a good flavor, which is blended with tempura batter fried at the restaurant and blended with the soup to create a delicious taste.

When you eat it, you will feel a sense of fulfillment and relief that "this is it after all.

The Bando Miso Nikkomi Udon, which was inspired by the udon noodles of the Yamamoto-ya type, a Nagoya specialty, and arranged for the Kanto people, has a different taste from that.

The firmness and thickness of the Yamotoya-style miso nikkomi udon is reduced and the taste is somewhat milder, making it easier to eat, yet still full of flavor. It is filled with plenty of ingredients, so you will never get tired of it.

Furthermore, with the revision of the grand menu, collagen has been added to the Bando Miso Stewed Udon, which contributes to the good texture of the udon.

There are several toppings available, and I chose the "spicy miso" topping. It is not so spicy at first, but the sweaty spiciness comes later, and it is very addictive. Incidentally, the soup is quite spicy if you drink it directly.

Another specialty of Bando Taro is its desserts.

Nearly 10 members, the largest number in each department, are involved in menu development, and they come up with as many as 50 candidates in one season to narrow down the seasonal sweets menu. For research purposes, everyone splits up and sometimes spends an entire day eating sweets in Tokyo.

Today we had "Anmitsu," a popular menu item among the year-round offerings.

The main ingredients vary depending on the season, such as melon, mango, and strawberries. On this day, there was a large melon on top, which made me happy as it had a lot of pulp.

Ice cream specifications include a choice of vanilla, melon sorbet, mango sorbet, or soft serve ice cream. The author chose the royal vanilla, but since there are two balls, it is a great value.

The mochi (sticky white rice balls), agar agar, and kuromitsu (black honey) topping were also a nice touch. Overall, the sweetness was not too sweet, but just enough to be pleasant and fill my body and soul.

For dessert, ingredients from the company's own farm near the headquarters are sometimes used, and in the summer season of 2025, original brand strawberries "Bandohime" were used as the sauce and put in shaved ice, which became very popular. They also grow some melons and are now working on more blueberries.

The trademark of Bando Taro is the cup and the tea.

The tea is made from Sarushima tea produced by Noguchien Honten in Bando City, Ibaraki Prefecture, which was established in 1910 and has won both the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award and the Mainichi Agricultural Record Award. According to Mr. Kosuge, "It contains matcha (powdered green tea), which gives it a mild taste and makes it easy to drink.

A new tea is served to each pair of customers, and the motto is "spend money and serve deep-colored tea.

Every time I go there, I have the impression that they make a strong cup of tea. Incidentally, at the discretion of the waiter, they may also bring you "water" along with the tea.

After enjoying the delicious food, we asked Kosuga about the top three most popular products at Bando Taro.

The second place, hidden behind the "Bando Miso Stewed Udon," which took first place by a long shot, is the " White Sesame Miso Stewed Udon. Using mildly sweet white miso paste, sesame and chili peppers are added to give it a flavor similar to tanzan-men (noodles with sweet bean paste).

The third most popular item was the "Tenzaru Sushi Set. This set includes tempura, sushi, and noodles in a well-balanced package, and is popular among women.

A highly economical menu item in the Bando Taro business is the "Toku Lunch (1,529 yen)," which is limited to 10 servings. It was created to encourage customers to come early and ease the lunchtime crowds. Incidentally, the "Bando Miso Stewed Udon" lunch is also popular.

The company motto of the Bando Taro Group is Oyako Koji We are committed to providing the best service to our customers. The company motto is to "strengthen family ties" by treating one's own parents and those who have taken care of one's family as one's "parents.
