Kairakuen Garden is a feudal lord's garden that has been open to and enjoyed by the people of the domain since the Edo period (1603-1868), as the name "a place to enjoy with the people" suggests.

When you go through the front gate, you will be greeted by the massive thatched main building reminiscent of the Edo period and the colorful autumn leaves.

The 1 hectare site includes the main house, which was restored to its original appearance in the mid-19th century, a shoin (a Japanese-style drawing room) reconstructed in the Taisho era (1912-1926), and a beautiful garden and bamboo grove that recreate the atmosphere of that era, making visitors feel as if they have stepped back in time.

From the second floor of "Gassharo," a shoin built on the west side of the main building, you can look down on the garden, which turns red during the autumn foliage season. The view through the Taisho period-era glass doors is quite different. The main building, front gate, and attached wall are registered as a National Important Cultural Property.
