Yamani Otsuka

Yamani Otsuka, located up Jouchizaka Street, the main street of Mashiko Town, operates a Shop & Gallery, Restaurant, and pottery making classes. For example, if you want to make your favorite tableware at the Restaurant, you can go to the pottery class and try your hand at making ceramics, an experience unique to a pottery town.

Experience using an electric potter's wheel. The experience of handling clay by hand and using the potter's wheel to change its shape is popular with many repeat visitors. The teachers have a good reputation for their careful instruction, and even with the help of the instructor, the satisfaction of making something by yourself is great. Once the vessel has been shaped, the Staff/staff member will fire it (*) and you will receive it about two months later.
(*) After the pottery is made, the potter can choose from five different types of glazes to add color to the piece.

Kasai, where you can paint your favorite pictures

The "Kasai Tebineri Course" is popular because you can paint your favorite pictures on the shapes made by "Tebineri," a process of stretching and piling clay without using a potter's wheel. This is the only experience in the Mashiko area where you can paint with colored mud. You can add your originality to your work, making it more personalized.
This course is available only on weekdays. You will receive it about two months after it is fired.

Mashiko Pottery Center

The Mashiko Pottery Resale Center, marked by the largest raccoon dog in Japan, is a Property with the theme of "buy, eat, make. It is also the venue for the "Mashiko Grand Pottery Fair" held every spring and fall, which attracts many visitors.

The popular "Experience" class offers two courses: a one-hour course and a two-hour course. The teacher provides support using an electric potter's wheel, and most of the work is done by the student. Most of the work is done by yourself, giving you a sense of accomplishment.
It takes 1.5 to 2 months to receive the pottery after it has been fired to the color you selected from among 6 colors.

Painting Experience with a Wide Variety of Pottery

The "Painting Experience" offers a choice of about 50 different types of pottery, including teacups, coffee cups, etc. You can enjoy painting your own favorite picture or adding your child's handprint.
The pottery is fired with Mashiko's coarse white glaze and takes 1.5 to 2 months to arrive at the store.

The "Tebineri Experience" is popular with children because they can freely create shapes just like playing with clay. Various "hanko" (stamps) are available, such as stars and hearts, making it easy to add patterns to your work.

Mashiko Pottery Kiln Yokoyama

Mashiko Pottery Pottery Yokoyama, which also operates a gallery, café/restaurant, and bakery, offers a variety of courses that even beginners can experience pottery making.

The main "Rokuro (potter's wheel) Experience" includes a family plan, a couple plan, and a ladies' plan, so you can participate according to the people you are going with. The point is that even beginners can feel at ease because the teacher will correct any mistakes, such as misshaping. Once you have made several pieces, you can choose the piece you want to fire (3 pieces per person, depending on the size) and choose from 10 different patterns, and the Staff/staff member will paint the pattern on the piece for you.
The glaze is applied and the pieces are fired, and it takes about 50 days for them to arrive at their destination.

Easy Experience Course

If you want to make something in a short time since you have come all the way to Mashiko, or if you want your child to have a hands-on experience, you can easily enjoy the "Ocarina Painting Experience" and "Mashiko-Yaki Plate Making Experience" workshops.
The 15-minute experience is suitable for even small children. You can take home the workshop pieces on the same day after they dry.

Hasegawa Pottery, Ceramic Forest

The Mashiko Pottery School has a history of more than 50 years as a Mashiko pottery kiln, and was one of the first to offer "pottery classes" 20 years ago, making it a highly experienced experience class.
The popular Roroku (potter's wheel) Experience course is reasonably priced, with experienced Staff/staff members providing detailed instruction for beginners. You can experience up to a half-day (4 hours) for ¥1,000 for any number of hours. You can take the class at any time during the course hours, so you can make your schedule according to your convenience. Experienced students can immerse themselves in creating works of art without worrying about time, making this a highly satisfying class for everyone.
Since the stores close early in Mashiko, we offer a night course, starting from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., which is a two-hour course and requires a reservation by the previous day. Firing fees vary depending on the size of the piece, so please check with the site to determine the price.

Abundant Experience Menu

There are a variety of menus to meet your needs, such as the "Couple Plan" that includes the firing fee, the "All-you-can-fire plan," the "Tehineri Course," and the "Painting Experience Course. All plans can be done in the same studio, so families and groups can come and choose their favorite plan and experience it at the same time. There are 10 types of glazes typical of Mashiko, and samples are available so that you can choose the one you like best while imagining what the finished product will look like.
If you make a reservation in advance, you can be picked up and dropped off at the station or anywhere else in Mashiko Town.

Komine Kiln

The popular rokuro (potter's wheel) Experience allows unlimited use of clay for two hours, so you can make pots at your own pace and without worries. Once the shape is made, glaze is chosen and the pot is fired for about 3 months.
There are 14 different types of glazes, created through repeated mixing tests while taking into account customers' requests. You can choose your favorite color.

Glazes in a wide variety of colors

Pastel painting and hand-binning experiences are popular with children. The store is often used by groups such as field trips and PTA training sessions, and has many repeat customers. Aprons are available for rent free of charge, but it is advisable to wear clothes that can get dirty.
