Local Guide FAQ
- What do you recommend in the Ito area (places, experiences, food)?
We offer a wide variety of Activities such as diving and paragliding to fully enjoy the nature of Izu. I myself had my first experience of flying after being assigned to Ito. The moment I took off, the mountains of Izu and the vast ocean of Sagami Bay, including the Izu Islands, opened up before my eyes.
- Please sneak in some hole-in-the-wall places that you know because you live there.
I recommend you to go to restaurants in the Minami Ito area, which is one stop away from Ito Station and not frequented by tourists. It is impressive that there are many restaurants scattered around the area that have been loved by locals for a long time, rather than those for tourists. I am particularly fond of "Nonki Sushi," which can be reached on foot from Minami Ito Station. The owner is a very friendly person and a native of Ito, so you can talk to him about a wide range of topics, from seasonal ingredients to the local area. He is also happy to provide dishes suited to your budget!
- Where did you travel to last year and with whom?
I love the scenery of the alleyways that still retain traditional streets, and I went island-hopping with friends to Izu Oshima and Nichiga Island in Aichi Prefecture. I also went to Kamakura, Omi Hachiman, and Hikone in Shiga Prefecture by myself. When I go to these places, I like the interiors of the buildings, so I always look forward to eating at the old private house restaurants.
- What do you do on your days off?
On my days off, I like to drive, so I basically enjoy sightseeing around Izu. In addition, I have started to do some simple DIY so that I can enjoy my room. For this reason, I often go into home improvement stores.
- Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?
I take one of my favorite novels with me. It is a great way to enjoy the time I want to relax at my accommodation or on the way to the destination. However, when the destination is much more exciting, I often don't read it. I value the mood I'm in at the time. This summer I was reading "Six Days in August" all over.
