5 Recommended Souvenirs from the Kaga Area (Around Yamashiro/Yamanaka Onsen, Komatsu)

A traditional hot spring inn in Kaga where new sensibilities breathe. It has been reopened as a hot spring inn that breathes new life into the historic Kaga traditional architecture and features a newly built guest room wing. The decor, featuring motifs of Kutani ware, Kaga Yuzen, and Kaga Mizuhiki, will vividly color your stay.

Local Supporter FAQ

What are your recommendations for the Kanazawa/Kaga area (places, experiences, gourmet food)?

It's a classic, but Kanazawa's Higashi Chaya District is a spot I enjoy no matter how many times I visit. It is lined with quiet little general stores and teahouses that you might not notice if you just walk past. It's also perfect for souvenir hunting, as there is a large collection of traditional crafts like unique Kutani ware, lacquerware, and mizuhiki crafts.

Please secretly tell us some hidden gems that only a local would know.

I recommend Hashidate Fishing Port, which is about a 15-minute drive from KAI Kaga. You can enjoy fresh seafood in a relaxed atmosphere while gazing at the rough waves of the Sea of Japan in the distance.
If you take a stroll around the area, you can also enjoy exploring history, such as the museum dedicated to the Kitamaebune ships that supported the Kaga Hyakumangoku. It's a hidden gem that isn't often featured in guidebooks, so it's not crowded with tourists and you can spend a relaxing time there.

Who did you travel with and where did you go last year?

I traveled to Matsumoto in the autumn with my mother. The piano concert I heard in the mellow autumn air left a lasting impression. I've also become hooked on solo travel in Europe, and last year I went to Scandinavia and Spain. I love Sweden and am becoming a heavy repeater.

How do you spend your days off?

I recently bought a car, so before I know it, I'm out for a drive. I'm exploring Kaga by visiting shops I'm curious about or just driving without a destination.

Is there anything you always bring with you when you travel?

My single-lens reflex camera. When I'm sightseeing, I end up stopping many times for photos. I've often been left behind and almost gotten lost before I knew it...
