Local Guide FAQ
- What do you recommend (places, experiences, food) in the Nikko and Kinugawa area?
A "Mountain Restaurant" in Kirifuri Kogen. It is a North American-style café-restaurant in a perfect location overlooking the Kirifuri Falls, one of Nikko's three most famous waterfalls. The cheesecake "Nirvana," which has been loved for 40 years, is highly recommended.
- Please sneak in some hole-in-the-wall places that you know because you live there.
The Nikko Wood Carving Village Craft Center is lined with folk crafts from Tochigi.
You can make your own Nikko geta from a wide variety of hoses and wooden clogs while talking with master craftsman Masashi Yamamoto, who demonstrates and sells the traditional Nikko geta.
Also, a cute "Naruryu," a carved wooden dragon, sits on the ceiling at the entrance, making it easy to experience Naruryu without going to Toshogu Shrine.
- Where did you travel to last year and with whom?
During my vacation, I went on a trip to Europe with my fellow Staff/staff members, visiting Paris, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
The most memorable experiences were the "Autobahn," an unlimited-speed highway in Germany, and the "Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium," which drew me in so much that I lost track of time.
- What do you do on your days off?
I spend all day reading books and watching movies on my beloved MacBook Air at home or at my favorite café.
My recent boom is eating gyoza (dumplings) at "Minmin" in Kanuma.
- Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?
I recently bought headphones and speakers recommended by a senior Staff/staff member who loves music.
I love the feeling of hearing something different when I listen to music while traveling in places I don't know or visit for the first time.
