Michikusa no Tatsujin FAQ
- How did you get hooked on trains?
I had to go to a book signing in Kyushu by myself, and when I looked for a way other than flying, I came across the Blue Train (sleeper express). It was the first time for me to spend the night on a train, but I enjoyed the time I spent enjoying ekiben (boxed meals) and drinks while watching the night scenery. Since then, I have been hooked on trains, mainly sleeper trains.
- What are the points that ordinary people don't notice but are interesting here? What are some of the points that people usually don't notice?
Before I became a train fan, I never took pictures of trains when I traveled. At that time, trains were just a means of transportation for me. Nowadays, many of my trips become an objective in itself, riding the train. Not only sightseeing trains but also commuter trains can be fun if you know the features of the face of the train (the first car).
- Actually, I'm also a "XXX" fanatic!
As a YouTuber, I update my "Onna Railroad Hitori Tabi" channel every week. I also occasionally appear on TV and radio with railroad travel and ekiben as themes. I used to often design characters and produce animation and music. Recently, I also produce ekiben, talk shows, and workshops.
- What is your "unforgettable destination" and why?
While touring around town on a rented bicycle at Niitsu Station in Niigata Prefecture, he suddenly got stuck in a heavy snowstorm. When I was in trouble, a passing shopkeeper put my bicycle on his car and offered me tea at his store. What I always remember is not the beautiful scenery but the human connections. There are several such places in Japan that I have fond memories of.
- Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?
Camera (iPhone 17 Pro), GoPro, computer, and sometimes iPad (for drawing). I don't carry my SLR anymore because it's too heavy. Then there are contacts and glasses. In the summer, I use peppermint oil (insect repellant), sunscreen, and a light cloak. In winter, I wear neck wraps. Recently, I made an actor of my character, so I take it with me when I travel.
