5 delicious bakeries in the Yatsugatake area
We highly recommend visiting bakeries in the Yatsugatake area.
There are many unique and delicious bakeries, and you can enjoy not only the taste of the bread but also the atmosphere of the stores.
You can enjoy a morning or brunch at an eat-in, have a snack on the way to a drive, or take some home as souvenirs.
1YES! BAGLE (YES! BAGEL)
Once you visit, you will never forget this impressive bagel shop.
The interior of the store, which was renovated from a 100-year-old warehouse by the owner himself, is just as colorful. It is a mysterious space that is somehow cozy and comfortable, even though it is overflowing with things and chaotic. There are eight kinds of bagels with a sticky texture, including plain, walnut, and fruit bagels. There are five types of bagel sandwiches, and you can choose the type of bagel that goes best with the ingredients. Recommendations include blueberry and cranberry bagel with smoked salmon, orange and lemon peel bagel with duck, and cream cheese. When eating at home, the trick is to warm the bagels in the toaster for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes after misting, then wait 2 minutes in the residual heat. The surface will be crispy and the inside will be hot.

Freshly baked, high quality bread in a rustic store
The bakery relocated from Tachikawa, Tokyo to Hakushu-cho, Hokuto City three years ago. In the tastefully renovated Meiji-era house, there are about 20 varieties of healthy breads made with natural yeast, bran flour, and whole wheat flour. The owner's goal is to create "bread that is chewed well and eaten like rice," and while all of the breads are satisfying, the dough is moist and easy to eat. In addition to "fig and cream cheese" with its perfect balance of sourness and mildness and "banana bread" with its subtle sweetness, bread made with local fruits, pumpkins, and sweet potatoes are also available depending on the season. Since some of the breads sell out before noon, early arrival or a layaway order is recommended.
3KOMPLETEDO
A bakery like a hideaway in the woods
A family living in Hokuto City started this bread store in their garden six and a half years ago. The bread became so popular that they opened a store in their vacation home in Yatsugatake. Inside the cute store, there are always about 30 kinds of breads, including hard breads, sweet breads, and meal-type breads with vegetables and cheese. The bakery uses different types of yeast and natural yeast depending on the dough, making the most of the characteristics of each type of bread. The most popular bread is milk bread made with milk from Nobeyama. It has a subtle sweetness of milk and is recommended for babies' bread. There are also a variety of breads perfect for snacks, such as "Potepote" with sweet potatoes and orange and cream cheese croissant. Attracted by the exciting lineup, many people visit from early in the morning.

A Bakery Restaurant like a Hideout
Despite its secluded location on a narrow road beside a farm field off National Route 141, the shop is so popular that customers line up from morning during the tourist season. The bread is made with a base of Hokkaido and Canadian flour, honey yeast from a local apiary, and wheat flour yeast. According to the owner, the bread is carefully baked with a focus on hard and table breads. The restaurant's windows, reminiscent of a mountain hut, overlook the surrounding greenery and Akadake (Mt. Akadake), allowing customers to enjoy their meals in the exhilarating atmosphere typical of the Yatsugatake area. For breakfast, you can enjoy a hot sandwich made with the restaurant's signature bread. Uniquely, you can choose not only coffee or tea, but also fresh local milk.

5Seisenryo Bakery
Glossy bread made with fresh milk
Seisenryo in Kiyosato is famous for its soft-serve ice cream, but it has also long been known for its delicious bread. The flour is organic, the salt is natural salt from the Goto Islands, the eggs are locally raised heirloom eggs, and the water is from the delicious Yatsugatake region. In addition, most of the breads are made with homemade vegetable yeast, which is carefully baked while checking the ever-changing conditions of the yeast each day. The signature item is the Jersey Milk Bread, kneaded with organic Jersey milk from Seisenryo Jersey Farm. It is soft and fluffy, with a subtle aroma of milk when lightly toasted. Also recommended are bread with whole Camembert cheese and curry bread made with Seisen-Ryo's original curry.
