Hot spring containing about 30 times more ingredients than the standard value

 Red hot water
Red hot water" in the outdoor hot spring

Outdoor hot springs with panoramic views of the Yatsugatake mountain range are a specialty.
There are two types of rock baths for both men and women, one of which is the "akayu" (red hot spring) outdoor hot spring. As the name suggests, the reddish-brown water is a strong sodium chloride spring derived from seawater, the same as the famous Arima hot spring (Hyogo Prefecture). It has a salt concentration twice that of seawater and is rich in minerals such as Bali and lithium ions. The temperature is lukewarm at 38.8°C, making for a relaxing soak.

If you prefer milder water, go to the "Shiratsuyu" or indoor baths.

The indoor bath is blended with
The indoor bath is blended with "natural water from the Oshirakawa River in Hakushu," selected as one of the "100 best waters" by the Ministry of the Environment.

The "Shiratsuyu" outdoor hot spring and indoor hot spring are intentionally diluted by adding "natural water from the Oshirakawa River in Hakushu" to the hot spring water to soften the skin. Even so, the concentration of hot spring elements is about three times the standard value. In addition to a spacious bathtub, the indoor bathhouse also has a reclining bath, a hitting water bath, a sauna, and a water bath, allowing visitors to change their mood.
Dining Areas include a ramen store that serves ramen noodles made with "mountain salt," an original salt made by boiling down hot spring water, a restaurant that serves local cuisine, and a teppan yakiniku café terrace. Located within the Hakushu-Oshira Forest Water Park "Beruga," visitors can camp and play in the river.

Local Guide Comment

The spring water is a sulfate spring that improves blood flow and lymphatic drainage, and is expected to improve coldness and relieve fatigue. It is also called "hot water for wounds," and is said to be effective for recovering from cuts. What is unusual is that the color of the spring water changes when it comes into contact with the air. The indoor hot spring water turns green around 10:00, 16:00, and 18:00, and the outdoor hot spring water turns green around 17:00, and returns to brownish brown or colorless clear after one to two hours.

Deep underground, the natural hot spring water from the "Fossa Magna" is a slightly alkaline sodium-chloride spring. The salinity coats the skin and prevents the body's heat from escaping, so it is said that the water does not cool down easily. Although the spring water is as hot as 44.3°C, a heat exchanger is used instead of adding water. 42°C indoor baths are the main feature, along with a 38°C lounging bath and Jacuzzi, a 40°C jet bath, and a high-temperature bath heated to 46°C in the men's bath. The baths have a capacity of 500 liters per minute, and all but the high-temperature baths are luxurious, 100% free-flowing hot-spring water.
