Child-Friendly Cafes and Restaurants in Nasu Highlands
Nasu Kogen is rich in nature and easily accessible from Tokyo. Many families visit here, and kid-friendly restaurants are scattered throughout the area. A wide variety of restaurants offer cutlery for kids, baby chairs, diaper changing stations, and other amenities that are great for travelers with children, who tend to carry a lot of baggage. Here we introduce stores that are comfortable for both children and adults.
1Cafe Lormo
Enjoy watching the pizza making process with your children.
An Italian Restaurant with a country-style exterior located near Lake Rindo in Nasu. The authentic pizzas baked in a stone oven made in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.
The front of the stone oven is made of glass, as the owner wants customers to enjoy watching the pizza being made. A stepladder is also provided so that even small children can take a peek. Strollers are allowed in the spacious interior, and picture books, stuffed animals, and cribs are available. Children's tableware and other items are also available, making it a great place for those with children.
Crispy, chewy wood-fired pizzas baked in a massive stone oven
The owner used to set up a DIY stone oven in his garden and offer pizza-baking experiences for tourists. Families visiting during summer vacation enjoyed everything from chopping wood to pizza toppings. When he decided to start his own restaurant, he learned how to make authentic pizza from an Italian chef. Based on this knowledge, he improved the pizza dough. The current taste is the result of a trial-and-error process of mixing flours, such as incorporating flour from Tuscany. The homemade olive oil used in the restaurant is recommended as a souvenir.

2Cafe Facile
Relax in a space bathed in soft sunlight
Opened as a "place where you can have the luxury of doing nothing" where you can relax and spend time without worrying about time. The warm wood-based interior also creates a comfortable atmosphere.
The restaurant is spacious and roomy, allowing customers with children to enjoy their meals without worrying about their surroundings. It is also nice that there is a sofa large enough for a baby who cannot sit on a chair by himself to lie down on. Goods for children to enjoy, such as colored pencils and picture books, are also available.
Taste authentic menus using Nasu ingredients with your child
The "hamburger steak," the restaurant's signature dish, has a sweet and deep flavor with plenty of sauce made with miso from the famous Kuraraku restaurant in Nasu. On top are seasonal vegetables from Nasu, which are recommended to be eaten with the miso sauce. The hamburger steak on the kids' menu has a sweet flavor with ketchup sauce for children. The Nasu Milk Pudding from the children's plate is topped with strawberry sauce made from Tochiotomos. Parents and children can enjoy a pleasant café time together.

3Licca. NASU HUTTE
Enjoy a hamburger with your child at lunch time in Nasu Yumoto
Opened in 2013 as a mountain hut café specializing in Nasu ingredients. The most popular hamburger, named after the restaurant, boasts a homemade 180g patty made from 100% A4/A5 rank Tochigi Wagyu beef. Only salt and pepper are used to enhance the juicy, meaty flavor. You can add sauce afterward if you like. The buns that sandwich the patties are also homemade, and are not too sweet to enhance the deliciousness of the patties. The french fries on the plate are also very satisfying, and you can taste the turnip pickles as an accent.
A casual atmosphere to enjoy with children
The restaurant is located in Nasu Yumoto, a well-known hot spring area. It is conveniently located across from the prefectural free parking lot, and it is not unusual to see a long line of people waiting in line during the holiday season. The restaurant, based on the concept of a mountain cabin, has not only counter and table seating, but also sofa seating, and the space is decorated with fun paintings that children can't help but admire. The menu, including the "Nasu Imperial Egg Burger" with its rich egg yolk, is not to be missed. The shop also has a space for selling goods made by local artists, making it a great place to look for souvenirs from Nasu.

4Restaurant Steam Train
Lunch served by the D51 locomotive of your dreams is a special treat!
Just by looking at the railroad crossing at the entrance and the exterior that resembles a station name plate, this Restaurant is sure to grab the hearts of railroad-loving children. Once inside the station-like building, you will see the railroad tracks running through the middle of the restaurant. The best part is when a D51 locomotive, one-fifth the size of the real thing, comes running into the restaurant carrying the menu you have ordered. The whistle and running sound of the actual steam locomotive are played as background music, adding to the excitement. The seating area is also equipped with station name displays for the Tohoku Main Line (seating) and Yamanote Line (chair seating), as well as railroad signals, allowing diners to enjoy their meal time in a playful atmosphere.
Kids can enjoy children's lunch, while adults are satisfied with locally produced pork and beef.
For kids, the "Okosama Lunch" with grilled rice balls, hamburger steak, omelette, jelly and sweets is popular. For adults, the teppan-yaki teppanyaki offers marbled steaks and other meats that are known for their tenderness and juicy texture. Yakisoba and yakiudon are also available, so it is recommended to order according to children's ages and preferences or share with the family.
After dinner, take a picture with the station name plate in front of the restaurant as a backdrop for a memorable experience. Diaper changing space is available in the women's restroom.
