Recommended hot springs around Nikko where you can stop by between sightseeing

Nikko is dotted with spots where you can enjoy day-trip hot springs. Soaking in hot springs on your trip is one of the pleasures of traveling.

It takes about 20 minutes by bus from Nikko Station. Yashio-no-Yu, located just before the ABCs of Hot Spring, is a hot spring Property operated by Nikko City. In the rest area called "Exchange Room," many visitors relax on tatami mats and chat with each other after taking a bath. Eating and drinking are also free, so it is recommended to spend a relaxing time in the "Exchange Room" while enjoying snacks purchased at the cafeteria or store.
In the Dining Area, try the "Nikko Maitake Tempura Soba and Udon Noodles," which are known for their large maitake mushrooms. Nikko Yubara Ramen" with delicious seasoned yuba is another popular menu item.

From Nikko Station, head toward Toshogu Shrine and up Mt. Ogura, and you will find "Nikko Ogurayama Hot Spring Haruhyoutei Yurin" in the midst of Nikko's great nature. The modern building is eye-catching.

Tosuteru Hot Spring Ryoron Fukudaya is located 15 minutes by car from the Osawa I.C. on the Nikko Utsunomiya Road. Founded in the days when the area was a prosperous lodging town for pilgrims to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, the inn is now a popular Daytrip Destinations hot spring Property with its own hot spring source.

The hot spring is an alkaline simple high hot spring, clear and colorless, with a source temperature of 50°C and an abundance of hot water. The indoor bath has a high ceiling with a view of the garden through a large windowpane.

Akebi, a natural hot spring away from home, offers private rooms with outdoor hot spring baths. The outdoor hot spring baths, both hinoki baths and stone baths, are equipped with private hot springs, and are a luxurious place to soak in hot spring water while enjoying the view of the Kinugawa valley. The views and interiors from all 10 detached rooms are all different, so you can look forward to spending time in a different room each time you visit.

Kaniyu is located further into the mountains from Okukinu hot spring. The area where this hot spring is located is in a national park, so it is inconvenient that general vehicles are not allowed to enter the area from the halfway point, but it is a hidden hot spring that you should definitely visit. To enjoy the hot spring on a day trip, visitors can take a bus or car to Meotobuchi Onsen, and then walk along a 4.5-kilometer hiking trail.
Once you arrive at the inn, you can immediately start touring the famous hot spring baths. All of the indoor and outdoor hot springs, as well as the private baths, offer a panoramic view of the wild landscape with virgin forest looming in front of you. In particular, the second outdoor hot spring offers a view of a waterfall in front of you, and the cool, refreshing scenery will cleanse your soul.

The five sources of "Kanyu" boast a volume of hot water equivalent to two drums (a little over 300 liters) per minute. Each has its own unique characteristics, such as the "golden hot spring" with its muddy water, the "rock hot spring" whose main ingredient is salt, which is highly effective in retaining heat, and the "bamboo hot spring" with its smooth water that feels good on the skin. The mixed bathing outdoor hot spring "Romanyu" allows visitors to enjoy these varied hot springs in one place. Four bathtubs separated by small partitions allow visitors to soak in the hot water of each source, and the bathtubs are available in temperatures ranging from lukewarm to hot, allowing visitors to choose the level of hot water they prefer. Located at an elevation of 1,350 meters, the baths are 8 to 9 degrees cooler than those below, even in mid-summer, making bathing a pleasant experience.
The one-day hot spring is open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., so leave early to allow plenty of time to arrive.

This is a place further into Kinugawa hot springs, a place that is truly worthy of being called a secluded hot spring. The outdoor hot spring offers a dynamic view of the Byobu-Iwa (folding screen rock) on the opposite bank of the river.
