Kaoru Yoshida
Always full of smiles!

She encountered the "Suzume Odori" (sparrow dance) performed at the Aoba Festival in Sendai during her college years, and since then, she has loved the "Suzume Odori" more than three meals a day. Always full of smiles to brighten up those around her, she has a stronger desire than anyone else to spread the charm of Miyagi.

What are your recommendations for the Akiu area?

The best thing about the Akiu area is, without a doubt, being able to fully enjoy the great outdoors. Among its attractions, you can descend right near the basin of Akiu Great Falls, allowing you to feel the powerful flow of the water. It is a spot I highly recommend visiting at least once if you come to Akiu!

Please secretly share some hidden gems that you only know because you work here.

I recommend a cafe called Jeenya. Located a 13-minute drive from KAI Akiu, you can enjoy seasonal dishes and desserts while taking in the scenery of mountains and rice fields stretching out beyond the large windows.

What is a trip that remains in your memory?

A trip to Naritasan in Chiba. When I was a student, I performed the traditional Miyagi performing art called "Suzume Odori" (sparrow dance), and Naritasan was a place I visited on an expedition for it. After becoming a working adult, I visited Naritasan with my fellow Suzume Odori friends, and I have fond memories of eating the local specialty, eel, while reminiscing about our student days. Also, since you can collect several types of goshuin (temple seals) at Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, it was a great way to pursue my hobby.

How do you spend your days off?

I love sweets, so I enjoy cafe hopping. People often say they eat sweets when they are tired, but I eat them even when I'm feeling energetic!

Is there anything you always bring with you when you travel?

A goshuin-cho (temple seal book) is essential! I've always liked stamp rallies, and as an extension of that, I collect goshuin from all over the country. I tend to take trips focused on food, but since I'd get too full if I only ate, I always make sure to squeeze in some goshuin collecting in between.
