Local Guide FAQ

What do you recommend in the Kanazawa area?

You can't miss Kenrokuen Garden, one of the three most famous gardens in Japan. I often take a walk there because I can enjoy it any time of the year, from season to season. Just looking at the beautifully landscaped garden is enough to refresh my mind, and with the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa in front of it and Higashi Chaya-machi a little further away, I think it is a perfect starting point for sightseeing.

Please sneak in some hole-in-the-wall places that you know because you live there.

Kanazawa Izakaya "Sake and Shokuyujin Minato" is a restaurant that my family and I often go to. You can enjoy delicious seafood dishes, and you can immerse yourself in Ishikawa's local sake with a set of 20 different types of sake to compare. The warm-hearted service of the owner and proprietress is also an attraction.

What is your most memorable trip?

Chiang Mai, Thailand, where I went with a friend. We had planned to go there more than six months in advance to see the Lantern Festival, which was the model for the Disney movie "Rapunzel on the Tower. I will never forget the beautiful scenery I saw throughout the night.

What do you do on your days off?

On my days off, I mainly go out for a stroll in search of wonderful things to do and see. Stores recommended by acquaintances, newly opened cafes, restaurants that I have been curious about. If it is a consecutive holiday, I jump on a train and go far away from home.

Is there anything you always take with you on a trip?

It may sound like a monthly thing, but I use my smartphone. When I travel, I put my travel plans into an app called "nicody" and keep a tight schedule. Incidentally, I used to make "travel bookmarks" in analog form on paper. Whether it's paper or an app, traveling is exciting from the planning stage!
