From Hamamatsu Gyoza to famous local restaurants, 7 carefully selected easy lunches
Hamamatsu gyoza is a specialty that rivals the eels that represent Hamamatsu. In recent years, Hamamatsu gyoza has become so well established as a local delicacy that it consistently tops the list of annual expenditures for gyoza, and has become a staple local delicacy for tourists as well. We recommend enjoying gyoza and other local delicacies at reasonable prices over a casual lunch. Here we introduce seven restaurants that are well known for their lunch, including a famous gyoza restaurant and popular udon and soba restaurants loved by the locals.
1Ishimatsu JR Hamamatsu Station
According to one theory, there are about 80 gyoza specialty restaurants in Hamamatsu. Ishimatsu, the originator of Hamamatsu gyoza, was founded in 1953 in front of Hamamatsu Station, and now has a main store in the northern part of the city. The JR Hamamatsu Ekimae Branch, located on the first floor of May One directly connected to Hamamatsu Station, is a casual place to enjoy the original taste of Hamamatsu Gyoza near the station. The store adheres to the basics of Hamamatsu gyoza, including the use of pork kneaded into the main ingredient, cabbage, instead of Chinese cabbage or chives, and the style of arranging gyoza in a circle with boiled bean sprouts in the center (at least 15 pieces in the middle).
The birthplace of Hamamatsu gyoza with bean sprouts
Bite into the thin skin, which is crispy and fragrant with sesame oil, and the sweetness of cabbage and the flavor of pork meld together and fill your mouth with a delicious sensation. The secret is the "secret ingredient" created by the first generation of the restaurant. The secret is said to be the "secret recipe" created by the founder of the restaurant.

2Mutsukiku
The restaurant is conveniently located on the south side of JR Hamamatsu Station, about a 3-minute walk from the station. Founded in 1962, the restaurant has been selling gyoza (Chinese dumplings) since the days when there were few gyoza specialty restaurants in Hamamatsu City. On holidays, there is often a line of customers waiting in line right after the restaurant opens. The restaurant has both counter and table seating, and despite being a long-established restaurant, it is easy to enter.
Healthy gyoza with plenty of vegetables
To order gyoza, select the number of gyoza you want from 8, 12, 16, or 20. After the order is placed, the dumplings are wrapped in the skin and baked. The browned side of the dumpling is crispy and savory, while the other parts are soft and chewy. The main ingredient is finely chopped cabbage, which is light on the palate, and the more you chew, the more the sweetness of the cabbage and the flavor of juicy pork become one. The more you bite into it, the more the sweetness of the cabbage and the flavor of the juicy pork become one. It is truly the royal road of Hamamatsu gyoza. After eating, you can take a break from eating to refresh your palate with boiled bean sprouts, allowing you to enjoy the taste of gyoza until the very end.
3Teuchi Udon Gonta
The restaurant has been located near Hamanako Pal Pal in the center of Kanzanji hot spring for 45 years. In 2016, it was relocated and reopened on Tateyama-ji Monzen Dori.
We are proud of using "Kinuakari," a new variety of wheat flour born in Aichi Prefecture, for our udon noodles. The udon noodles, which are made through a careful foot-pounding process, have a strong texture, and the more you bite into them, the chewier they become and the subtler sweetness of the wheat can be felt. They are also glossy, beautiful, and appetizing.
A variety of hearty handmade udon menus
Gonta's signature dish is "Yaramaika," a dish of broiled eel, grated yam, and quail eggs. This is a Hamamatsu dialect word meaning "Let's do it! in Hamamatsu dialect. Underneath the stamina-packed ingredients is 1.5 times the usual amount of udon noodles, making it a satisfying meal. Other original menu items incorporating local ingredients include the "Kama-age Shirasu Udon" using shirasu (baby sardines) landed in the Enshu Sea, and the "Hamanako Nori Kamatama Udon" combining Hamanako nori (laver) and eggs. Many people from outside of the prefecture visit the restaurant for the seasonal limited-time-only menu items, such as the "Sakuraebi Shirasu Udon" that appears in spring.

4Teuchi-Soba Fujihana
Located in a residential area near the Hamamatsu Flower Park, the log house-style building is tucked away on a small street off Tateyama-ji Kaido Road. At first glance, it looks like a café, but in fact, it is a hard-core buckwheat noodle specialty restaurant that serves up the finest buckwheat noodles. After taking off your shoes, you will be greeted by an open space with polished wooden flooring, a wood-framed interior, and a high ceiling.
The owner handmakes the buckwheat noodles with his own buckwheat flour, and offers two types of buckwheat noodles: 90% buckwheat noodles with a smooth texture and aroma, and rustic buckwheat noodles with a strong texture. The spicy sauce, which is made to go well with the soba, enhances the flavor of the soba even more.
Enjoy the owner's special soba noodles menu
If you want to enjoy soba for lunch, we recommend the "Lunchtime Soba Set". It is a hearty and satisfying course that includes "Soba-yaki Miso" (baked buckwheat noodles coated with miso paste kneaded with walnuts and buckwheat seeds), tempura of seasonal vegetables, 90% buckwheat noodles, two kinds of country buckwheat noodles with the skin also ground from buckwheat flour, and buckwheat ice cream.

5Brotlieben Miyakoda
Surrounded by mountains and rice paddies, the house is located in a typical Japanese satoyama landscape. It is known locally as a bakery where Yakko-chan, a goat, welcomes you. After greeting the father and son goats in the red-roofed hut, you will enter the bakery. The white walls and thick beams of the store are impressive, and the wooden floors, chairs, and tables create a relaxed atmosphere. The bakery bakes about 100 kinds of breads every day, including Danish bread, prepared breads, pies, tarts, and many others. The German bread, available only on Fridays and Saturdays, is especially popular. Breads can be purchased and enjoyed with coffee, tea, or other beverages in the café space.
A hearty menu with a set of our specialty bread
A morning menu is available from 9:00 a.m., and a lunch menu from 11:00 a.m. The morning menu includes an omelette or fried egg and a muffin. Lunch offers nine different types of dishes, including a "beef stew set" and a "bread gratin set," all of which come with a set of their signature bread. A monthly dessert is also available, so relaxing after lunch is also recommended. On the premises, there is a free dog run and a space where you can dine with your dog, so visitors with dogs can come to the restaurant with peace of mind.

This tofu specialty store is directly operated by Sube Shoten, which has been producing tofu and other soybean products since its establishment in 1877 in Miyakoda, a town known as the "back seat" of Hamamatsu City. Healthy handmade tofu served with a meal
In the adjoining restaurant area, healthy meals and tofu bowls featuring freshly made tofu and deep-fried tofu are available at lunch time.
